The third SDCC title, the Princess Leia miniseries, will launch in March.
In other EUish sorts of news, we learned a few days ago that Alexandra Bracken is replacing R.J. Palacio on the retelling of A New Hope for young readers. Subtitled Being the Story of Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and the Rise of the Rebellion, it’s due out on June 23. The book was announced back in April, and the other two original trilogy adaptions are still being penned by authors Adam Gidwitz and Tom Angleberger.

We don’t usually cover comic solicitations anymore, but Marvel released theirs for January today, and that means an unwatermarked look at the Alex Ross cover for the new Star Wars #1 that’s a homage to Howard Chaykin’s from back in 1977. (Among several other variants.)
There are no real surprises in the copy, but there is a letter from Marvel editor Axel Alonso, which you can see below the cut.

The big fiction announcement at NYCC this weekend was… A Kanan ongoing series from Marvel. It’s being written by Greg Weisman (which may or may not explain his absence from the second season of Rebels) and begins with ‘The Last Padawan,’ in yet another prequel to the cartoon, this one going back to show how Kanan survived Order 66. Apparently if this does well, more Rebels focused comics may be on the horizon. But at the very least, it adds a different era to Marvel’s Star Wars lineup.

There wasn’t a novel announcement at Del Rey’s panel, but we did learn that Palpatine’s first name (from George Lucas) is revealed in James Luceno’s Tarkin.
Joe Quesada’s variant cover for Marvel’s Star Wars #1. The first fruit of the new contract, the issue will drop in January, with Darth Vader #1 and Princess Leia #1 following in February and March, respectively.
Yes, Marvel will be exploring other eras in their Star Wars comics. It’s not at all shocking (were people really doubting they’d spread out eventually?) but props to Coffee With Kenobi for getting a mention and link in The Hollywood Reporter.
StarWars.com has announced Marvel’s first repackaging of Dark Horse’s Star Wars comics. Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The Empire Vol. 1 will contain Republic 78-80, all three Purge minis, Darth Vader and The Lost Command and Dark Times #1-5.
There’s no date yet (I’m hearing April, but it’s not in the official item,) but Marvel’s first reprint, of their own classic content, begins in January. (Which was itself previously reprinted by Dark Horse.) The same month, their own brand new canon comics will launch.
Man Cave Daily (eyeroll) has an interview with with Marvel Star Wars editor Jordan D. White, who promises that they will be revealing… something. The question is in relation to the old ’80s Marvel stuff, but the answer to me seems much bigger than that:
Actually–let me take that back–there IS a big thing we have not announced yet that will be revealing stuff in comics first. It’s a big part of a character’s backstory that is important to them but that has not been shown before. We’re going to have the chance to reveal it in comics first. I can’t say what or where yet…but I will eventually.
I know our (okay, MY) first instinct is always Episode VII, but if he’s even mentioning it now, my guess is Rebels. Maybe something we’ll learn about at New York Comic Con?

Some suggestions for Marvel’s new Star Wars comics. They should totally do Rogue Squadron, and I like the Alderaan idea as well.
