Exclusive interview: Daniel Wallace on Book of Sith and The Jedi Path

When it comes to increasing our knowledge of topics in the Star Wars universe in entertaining ways, Daniel Wallace is a master. His works include several of the most well-regarded reference books, including The Essential Atlas, The New Essential Guide to Characters, and The New Essential Chronology. His articles and stories have appeared in the full gamut of magazines, from the Adventure Journal to Star Wars Gamer and the Star Wars Insider.

Last year, we were blown away by The Jedi Path, which he wrote as an in-universe guidebook for Jedi students. With the The Jedi Path being re-released this September, and his new work, Book of Sith: Secrets from the Dark Side coming out in February 2012 in a deluxe vault edition, Daniel took the time to answer some questions for Club Jade about the upcoming Book of Sith, which was first announced at Comic-Con this year and had major details released today, and the new version of The Jedi Path.

New Ostrander series deals with origin of the Jedi

Dawn Of The Jedi “will start at the beginning of the Star Wars timeline with the very beginning of the Jedi Knights, in a time before light sabres when they only fought with swords,” Bleeding Cool reports.

There are more details, including an interview with Ostrander and Jan Duursema, on Comic Book Resources.

Also coming are a new Knights of the Old Republic series, War! starring Zayne Carrick and written by John Jackson Miller. There’s also a Darth Vader mini and something called “Boba Fett Is Dead.” I expect we’ll hear more about all this as NYCC continues.

Details for Wallace’s Book of Sith revealed

With New York Comic Con just around the corner, details of Daniel Wallace’s Book of Sith: Secrets from the Dark Side have emerged. From the press release:

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…. Fragments of five essential dark side texts were passed among numerous Sith and Jedi—Darth Sidious, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Asajj Ventress, Mace Windu, Quinlan Vos, and others—who added their comments to the pages. Through the years, Darth Sidious pilfered and secreted away these texts, along with various objects created by his most powerful predecessors. Using this collected knowledge, the Emperor wrote his own manifesto, a sixth text, as well as a preface for the compilation. Each original text sheds light on the plots, exploits, and philosophy of the infamous Sith Order.

It also includes images of the case. The ‘artifacts’ include “a scrap of a Sith burial shroud, a battle map from the Great Galactic War, a diagram of Palpatine’s master plan, an Empire propaganda poster, and a note from Luke Skywalker.”

The release of the book has been pushed back a tad, to February 10. Check out our exclusive interview with Daniel Wallace on Book of Sith!

LFL’s Roffman on keeping Star Wars fresh

Marketing Week’s Laura Snoad talks to Howard Roffman on how Lucasfilm is keeping Star Wars relevant in the post-movie era. He pings on the books, video games, and other merchandising issues. Includes a question from our very own Eliz, the answer to which contains interesting bit on the StarWars.com redesign:

The website will also be easier for people to shop for Star Wars products and connect with other fans to see what other news is being generated from multiple sources. There’s an evolution in StarWars.com from wanting to be the [only] fans’ site to understanding we can connect to other channels that fans use to communicate with each other.

Darth Maul finally coming to Clone Wars; Phantom Menace 3-D trailer with The Three Musketeers

The Clone Wars will be cashing the check it wrote in season 3’s Savage Opress arc this spring: Darth Maul is back, and Entertainment Weekly has video.

UPDATE: USA Today has another image of Maul that shows more detail. They also reveal that we can expect a trailer for The Phantom Menace attached to Paul W.S. Anderson’s crazy steampunk-looking The Three Musketeers on Oct. 21. (via) Meanwhile, StarWars.com has a glimpse of the TPM 3-D poster.

It’s “an amazing storytelling opportunity,” they say. Personally, I find a resurrected Maul less facepalm-worthy than some of the other stuff they came up with last year, so, hey: Bring it on.

In the news: George Lucas does his civic duty; Football coach not up on Star Wars lingo

The Creator. George Lucas was at the Marin Civic Center yesterday – for jury duty. Not the most exciting of news (he was dismissed) but if you feel like a look back, The Atlantic published their 1979 profile of Lucas.

Sports. Florida Gators coach Will Muschamp was befuddled a week or so back by the term ‘padawan.’ ESPN has the video – and a brief guide.

Hmm, good news, yes. Our ancestors like Yoda spoke, linguists say.

Fans. Florida teacher Jay Hoff created a massive diorama of the Death Star II hanger bay from Return of the Jedi – with LEGOs.

People. Mark Hamill talks comics with CNN; Billy Dee Williams will be making an appearance on ABC’s Man Up; Natalie Portman is going to produce a miniseries based on a novel by 80’s staple Judith Krantz.
