TheForce.Net recorded the ‘Ask the Authors’ panel at the con, held last weekend in Irving, Texas. The first part is above – head below the cut for the rest. Continue reading “Video: Aaron Allston and Timothy Zahn at Fan Days IV”
Out this week: Invasion, The Lost Suns
After a long barren stretch, we’re seeing comics again on Wednesday. Invasion: Revelations #4 takes the New Jedi Order era comic towards the end of its third arc, while The Old Republic: The Lost Suns concludes with a “star-killing Sun Razer.” Dark Horse is really taking this whole recycling thing to heart, huh? There’s also a new Clone Wars digest, Strange Allies, featuring characters from some of those kids books we don’t cover. Whoo.
Going behind the scenes on Red Tails
This past week, the Red Tails facebook page brought up an album of new photos showing the cast and crew on location. Also, they released the clip above of the actors on the set talking about how they’ve bonded on the set.
Last week, two of the stars of Red Tails, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Terrence Howard, were at a screening of the companion documentary, Double Victory to the Congressional Black Caucus and talked about the Tuskegee Airmen, blacks in Hollywood, and George Lucas’ role in the films. Two of the original Tuskegee Airmen also took the stage at the screening, sharing their viewpoint on being heroes. Watch for screenings of Double Victory in select cities around Veterans Day.
EUbits: Two new-to-us authors bringing Han, Chewie and the Falcon to Insider; Gear up for Kemp’s Riptide
Short stories. Two brand-new authors have a story coming to the Insider in January. David J. Williams and Mark Williams’ ‘Maze Run’ is a “classic Han & Chewie adventure aboard the Millennium Falcon,” to tie into the release of The Millennium Falcon Owner’s Workshop Manual. Fittingly, the ship is “the star of the story.” Will we see the Williams doing anything more lengthy for the franchise?
Riptide. With Paul S. Kemp’s latest only weeks away, Suvudu has a excerpt, while Kemp himself is doing an e-signing.
More excerpts… This week’s Facebook mini-excerpt is from Drew Karpshyn’s Revan; There’s another from the audiobook as well.
Fate of the Jedi. The manuscript for the final book, Troy Denning’s Apocalypse, is in the hands of Del Rey. In case you were wondering.
Press. Timothy Zahn in the Lansing City Pulse.
Go on a ‘Mercy Mission’ with The Clone Wars
“Welcome to our disaster!” Tonight’s episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars features C-3PO and R2-D2 as they accompany Clone Commander Wolffe’s battalion of clones on a relief mission on quake-hit Aleen. Judging from the preview clip of ‘Mercy Mission’, it looks like Threepio and Artoo have their work cut out for them.
Wacky merchandise: Lightsaber candlestick
Oh, ThinkGeek. OF COURSE you’re producing a lightsaber candlestick just in time for the holidays. Of course.
Six reasons being a Jedi kind of sucks
It ain’t all mind-tricks and fancy footwork: John Scalzi continues his Star Wars irreverence with six reasons why being a Jedi is not so fun. Number 2 is haircuts! Because somehow, some way, George Lucas found a way to make Ewan McGregor unattractive. Sigh.
George Lucas: Steve Jobs saw “true potential in everything he touched”
The news that Apple co-founder and technology titan Steve Jobs passed away yesterday. The news was hard to miss last night, and while I generally try to stay away from posting ‘real’ news here on Club Jade, I couldn’t let it pass without some mention.
Jobs’ connection to Star Wars is tenous at best – he bought Pixar from George Lucas for $4M in 1986. Lucas said in a statement, “The magic of Steve was that while others simply accepted the status quo, he saw the true potential in everything he touched and never compromised on that vision. He leaves behind an incredible family and a legacy that will continue to speak to people for years to come.”
I’ve been using Apple products since 1999, and much of the site you see here was produced on them in one way or another. Whether or not you’re a fan, it’s hard not to admit that the Apple Jobs created and later revived has been a driving force in technology and pop culture. Thanks, Steve.
The Clone Wars review round-up: shadowing ‘Shadow Warrior’
Time to see what the rest of the galaxy thought of last week’s episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars: ‘Shadow Warrior’. You probably already know how much I liked it from my review here on Club Jade. But what did other people think of the Grievous-skewering, Gungan-possessing, Anakin-zapping, something-spoilery-happens episode?
