Star Wars with occasional sarcasm
Anti-trust lawyers must be wringing their hands with glee at this one: MTV Geek is saying that after acquiring Lucasfilm (pending approval) Disney will be turning to Hasbro. Or rather, that they’re having “discussions.”
Buying Hasbro would give Disney the rights to Transformers, G.I. Joe, Dungeons and Dragons, and My Little Pony, among others. And by folding in the toys, they’d be getting a bigger share of the Star Wars pie as well.
The first in a new series of shorts developed by Lauren Faust (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic) featuring Wonder Girl, Supergirl and Batgirl premiered yesterday on Cartoon Network.
You might recognize the voices: Wonder Girl is played by Grey DeLisle (Azula in Avatar: The Last Airbender,) Batgirl is Tara Strong (IN EVERYTHING, including MLP:FIM, and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends) and Supergirl is played by Nicole Sullivan (Shego in Kim Possible.) Oddly, none of these ladies have been in The Clone Wars, though DeLisle did do voice Padme and Asajj Ventress in the Tartakovsky Clone Wars series, as well as some video game work, and Strong did a voice for The Old Republic.
This morning’s new episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic featured a fairly blatant take on the throne room scene from Star Wars. I admit to generally being more of the jaded eye-rolling type when it comes to this sort of thing, but this one took me completely off guard. (There’s something delightfully ironic about it ending a story featuring a villain voiced by a Star Trek guy.) I’m totally taking this as a personal shoutout, reality of production schedules be damned.

While some Star Wars fans have eating up The Clone Wars with a spoon, I have been getting into other children’s shows. For the first couple seasons it was Avatar: The Last Airbender, but now I have (accidently) fallen into another children’s show, one even less excusable than the truly excellent Avatar.
It’s My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Now, I grew up during the first flourishing of the My Little Pony toys in the 80’s, and I had a bunch of the things. Those ponies are long gone, and I only remember one of them (because I lost her while on vacation.) But somehow I ended sucked up into this show, and next thing I know I’m subscribing to fan blogs, registering on forums, and buying tiny plastic toys.
I’m not alone: Friendship is Magic has a flourishing adult fanbase, including a surprising number of male fans, who call themselves bronies. (They are, if nothing else, an interesting counterpoint to the case of Katie the Star Wars Girl.) It gets a little ridiculous, but it’s fun. (Plus, the second season of the show – which is easy to find on Youtube – began Saturday morning.)
And then there’s the pony generator. Starting with a Mara pony last night, I’ve created a few Star Wars ones, and I’ll post the codes in the comments if you want to tweak from there.
Really, this all could have been avoided if Legend of Korra hadn’t been delayed…

Guys, I think that this ‘trailer’ will recreate for you the ‘Are you kidding me’ effect I felt watching Transformers. Of course, the ponies don’t talk, so YMMV.
You missed one. io9 lists the most ridiculous evil twins in the multiverse, tragically ignoring Star Wars’ Thrackan Sal-Solo. Okay, sure, so maybe a mention for a C-list Expanded Universe character is too much to expect, but he’s the identical cousin of Han Solo! But evil! With a mustache! He led an organization called the Human League! What’s not to mock?
Great White Snark spotted even more Star Wars My Little Pony customs – Yoda and Darth Maul by DeviantArt’s Anime Amy. Most of her other ponies are indeed anime-themed, but she does have Godzilla, Davy Jones and (weirdest of all) an Optimus Prime ponies.
