To /Film, Ron Howard explains how that shocking Solo cameo came to be and whether a sequel is in the cards. Plus, the Kasdans on that choice and why Teras Kasi.
The origins of Star Wars Kinect’s infamous (and amazing) ‘I’m Han Solo’ song
New York Magazine looks into the genesis and creation of Star Wars Kinect’s “I’m Han Solo,” perhaps the best Star Wars filk since Weird Al’s “The Saga Begins”.
I’m not joking. The song is amazing, and every time I hear it I love it more.
It did cause a lot of fanbros a great deal of distress back in 2012, to which I say: Suck it. If Star Wars can’t dance (as it always has), what can?

Disney Music Group will re-release remastered versions of John Williams’ soundtracks for the first six Star Wars films on May 4. The soundtracks have been “reconstructed from new hi-resolution (24/192) transfers supervised by Shawn Murphy and Skywalker Sound.” They’re up for preorder now.

Composer John Powell begins scoring Solo
Solo director Ron Howard and composer John Powell both shared photos yesterday as the scoring process began at Abbey Road Studios in London.
The score will also feature a new Han Solo theme from John Williams.
(Yes, there are also pictures of Powell’s dogs.)
John Williams willing to return for Episode IX (and who’s going to tell him no?)
In an interview regarding his Oscar chances this year, composer John Williams says that he’s already told J.J. Abrams that he’ll return for Episode IX. “I would very much like to complete that,” he told Variety.
Williams is eligible for both The Last Jedi and The Post this year. He’s received 50 nominations over his career and won 5, including one for the original Star Wars.
Before IX, Williams will be contributing a theme for Solo.
John Williams to write a theme for Solo
John Williams will be contributing to the Solo soundtrack. “The present plan is that I’m writing a theme for Han Solo, and John Powell is going to write the score, which he’ll do brilliantly,” he told Variety.
Powell was announced as the movie’s primary composer in July. He’s only the second non-Williams composer to work on a live-action Star Wars film, after Rogue One’s Michael Giacchino.
John Powell to score Han standalone
The still-untitled Han Solo movie now has a composer – John Powell. His previous credits include the Bourne movies, How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek and many more. Powell follows Rogue One’s Michael Giacchino as only the second composer not named John Williams to score a live-action Star Wars film.
Han Solo and the Character Name Rumors
Making Star Wars has heard two names – both female – for the Han Solo standalone. One seems to be a puppet/voiced character (Phoebe Waller-Bridge, maybe?), while the other seems to be a major character with “top billing” – so likely Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton. That said, the names could be set pseudonyms.
→ Speaking of Clarke, she told the Los Angeles Daily News that talking about the Han movie “even scarier” than doing so for Game of Thrones.
→ io9’s Evan Narcisse makes the case that Donald Glover’s funk album proves he has the mindset to make Lando Calrissian his own.
→ Star Wars News Net has heard that they might be filming for three weeks on Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands.
→ Disney has released the schedule for their D23 Expo in July. We hope to learn a bit more about the Han film (and likely The Last Jedi) at the live-action film panel on Saturday, July 15.
Today in Rogue One: Hear a preview of Michael Giacchino’s score
Entertainment Weekly brought us our first listen of Michael Giacchino’s Rogue One score. I’m not really much of a score junkie, but it sounds good! If you want to dig a little deeper, the full track listing has been spotted. There are few intriguing things there, so take it as you will.
→ Chatting about Columbia’s Rogue One jackets with the brand’s director of apparel design, Debra Criss. These are really some of the most impressive clothing tie-ins we’ve seen with this film, so it’s nice to learn more.
→ There’s been some pretty ridiculous stuff running around Twitter regarding an “anti-Trump” message being inserted into Rogue One at the last minute. While Star Wars has never shied away from some pointed commentary, the timeline alone here makes that deeply unrealistic. And in any case, certain themes have been baked in since the start. I expect this boycott will bear about as much fruit as the last one did.
→ The interviews: Gareth Edwards on diversity, reshoots and the “team sport” method of Star Wars (and/or filmmaking in general.) Riz Ahmed raps. The Wrap calls Donnie Yen “the perfect breakout star for 2017” and he tells Mashable “Give me a lightsaber, you wouldn’t have two hours of storytelling.”
→ A quick guide to the Star Wars books, films and TV you may want to catch up on before Rogue One.
