Star Wars with occasional sarcasm
Curious about The Phantom Menace 3-D trailer, but not enough to pay to see The Three Musketeers or any of the weekend’s other 3-D offerings? TFN has a copy. TFN’s copy is kaput, but here’s a Youtube version. Found another. Cross your fingers.
Obviously it’s not in 3-D here, and the colors are a bit off – I’m told that’s a symptom of the re-conversion back into 2-D.
It’s that time of year when TV shows make their annual Halloween episodes, and we see our beloved sitcom characters show off their awesome costume making abilities. NBC’s Community has done a couple Halloween episodes, and while the show is full of Star Wars references, we haven’t seen any full Star Wars costumes by the main cast during trick-or-treat season (Abed did channel a bit of Han Solo as his man-with-no-name gunslinger in the most recent paintball outing). So, if the folks at Greendale Community College had to go with Star Wars for their Halloween theme, which characters would they pick?

In a clip from The People vs. George Lucas, which comes to DVD next week, A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back producer Gary Kurtz opines on the prequel trilogy. He’s not a fan, but you probably knew that.
Expanded Universe. Suvudu is offering up 50 pages of Paul S. Kemp’s Riptide. The book will be out Tuesday, but you can read a review at Lightsaber Rattling.
Live-action. I’ve been rolling my eyes at the inevitable wave of ‘what about the live-action show!?!’ whine that inevitably accompany any news of other TV projects, so those folks can feel free to take it to io9, where Charlie Jane Anders’ tells you what she wants from the live-action Star Wars and Star Trek TV shows.
Merchandise. Hallmark’s Star Wars exclusive ornaments are fast sellers at conventions, shocking… absolutely no one. Next year’s regular ornaments will be TIE Interceptor, Han on Taun taun, General Grievous, Darth Maul, and a Lego Stormtrooper.
People Mark Hamill says goodbye to the Joker. At least until they make another video game…
Here’s an interesting tidbit from the Wall Street Journal‘s Deal Journal blog: The Las Vegas Mob Experience, a museum devoted to organized crime, filed for bankruptcy on Monday – and Star Wars seems to be one reason why. A real estate developer used money from the mob museum to fund (no joking) Order 66 Entertainment LLC, which was created to bring the Where Science meets Imagination exhibit to Vegas.

As first reported the other day, Spike gave Darth Vader the honor of being named ‘Ultimate Villian’ at the Scream Awards, with George Lucas on hand. The show aired last night, so here’s the clip.

Howard Roffman, speaking at a European licensing conference, says that we’ll be seeing the Seth Green comedy project (which may or may not be named Star Wars: Detours) “within the next two years.” From a press released found by Jedi News:
[Roffman] said that Lucas has always found Star Wars parodies extremely funny, citing a brutally frank French & Saunders parody as an example, and is thrilled to be exploring opportunities in a new area of the brand.
It’s not much – or anything all that surprising – but things have been quiet on the comedy front lately. (Yes, of course George has a sense of humor.)

Inside the Sith Empire: Random House has a good chunk of the first chapter of The Old Republic: Revan up on its site. Drew Karpyshyn’s novel about the character from the Knights of the Old Republic game comes out in November. If there’s one thing to be said about the Sith Empire, it’s that the trains run on time, so they must be doing something right.
Vader turns the page: At Suvudu, Eric Geller previews The Complete Vader with a video walkthrough of the book that looks at Darth Vader as both character and as pop culture icon.
Fate of the Jedi: In case you missed it, last week, Troy Denning has turned in his manscript for Apocalypse.
Comics: I’ve been busy reviewing the latest Star Wars comics over at Big Shiny Robot: Last week we had the awesome Invasion – Revelations #4, and the lackluster The Old Republic – The Lost Suns #5. This week, I take a peek at Knight Errant – Escape #3, and a The Clone Wars digest: Strange Allies.
“It’s a big universe out there beyond the few million planets you know,” Padmé tells Threepio at the start of ‘Nomad Droids’, last week’s episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. And we got treated to a few of those strange new worlds as R2-D2 and C-3PO take an unintentional detour from the war. Although it feels like they passed through more of a bookshelf of classic children’s literature, only with some odd comments on politics thrown in.
