Branding image hints at Star Wars digital library, Darth Vader TV specials

Star Wars logoJedi News has snagged an image from the European Brand Licensing Show that reveals a few things about Lucasfilm and Disney’s marketing plans going forward.

First off, in spring/summer 2014, there’s ‘Classic LEGO Games Mobile” release, which speaks for itself, and “Darth Vader Themed TV Specials.” With Rebels is named separately and no LEGO, what form could these take? This is, quite literally, the first we’ve heard.

In autumn/winter 2014, there’s mention of a “Digital Library Launch.” Given the context here, I don’t believe this is anything to do with the books – which are already available digitally anyway – but to the release of the films themselves in a digital format (Apple TV, perhaps?) And I really doubt they’ll come alone – this could be a venue for The Clone Wars, other cartoons (Ewoks, Droids, Clone Wars 2D) and various specials from over the years – From Star Wars to Jedi, maybe, or even the Holiday Special. And even if it’s only the movies themselves, a digital release is long overdue.

And finally, there’s a reiteration of spring/summer 2015 for Episode VII. Shocking.

UPDATE: And here’s the rumor part of the equation from Jedi Master SQL.

Roundup: Clone Wars, Rebels, rumors and Threepio, oh my!

FiloniCartoons. Dave Filoni chats with both IGN and StarWars.com about Star Wars cartoons past and present. Mostly The Clone Wars, of course, given the new releases.

Dueling rumors. Jedi News’ Jedi Master SQL says that with John Williams only contracted for movies, J.J. Abrams himself may compose the Rebels theme. But Making Star Wars says it will be Williams doing the theme – and something for at least one other TV show. All-righty then. UPDATE: Michael Giacchino also in the mix?

Podcasting. On that note, Full of Sith’s latest Rumor Control is out, and I’m proud to have joined regulars Bryan Young and Bobby Roberts to chat Rebels (we taped this just hours after the NYCC reveals) and the latest Episode VII news and rumors.

Alumni. Anthony Daniels teased fans about C-3PO appearing in Episode VII, per Business Insider Australia, while Disney themselves teased that the droids would “presumably” return at D23 Expo Japan. Confirmation? Not really, but it’s probably a fairly safe assumption to make.

Out this week: The Clone Wars S5 and complete series box set, Star Wars Art: Concept

The Clone Wars S5 box setThe Clone Wars fans are having a good couple days – we got some Rebels details Saturday, Friday Dave Filoni announced that The Clone Wars’ remaining episodes will be seen early next year, and tomorrow sees the release of season 5 and a complete series box set on Blu-ray and DVD.

If the cartoon isn’t your thing, Pacific Rim..! Wait, no, Star Wars Art: Concept is also dropping. There’s a deluxe version for the collectors.

Our next Star Wars release is something something bounty hunters from Daniel Wallace, Ryder Windham and Jason Fry on October 27th (a Sunday?) followed by a ‘reasonably priced’ version of Frames on the 29th.

(But seriously, Pacific Rim, guyspacific-rim500)

NYCC: Meet Rebels’ big bad, the Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

True to the panels’ subtitle, Pablo’s Rebels presentation at NYCC focused on ‘the might of the Empire.’ The big ticket reveal? The show’s primary villain, ‘the Inquisitor.’

Rebels (logo)Yes, Inquisitors do exist in the EU, and yes, it’s been pointed out that this one does resemble The Son from Clone Wars’ Mortis arc… Although he appears he may be Utapaun?

Here’s a behind-the-scenes video with Dave Filoni:

Other things we learned? The show begins 14 years after Revenge of the Sith with a focus on the Outer Rim planet of Lothal. And of course, there’s more at StarWars.com

UPDATE: Hero Complex interviews Filoni and has another piece of concept art, and check out sienarfleetsystems.com/

First Rebels teaser coming Monday to Disney XD

Rebels (logo)TheForce.Net and many others are reporting that we can expect to see a glimpse of Rebels on Disney XD next Monday, October 7. A 15-second teaser will run during the premiere episode of Mighty Med, which airs from 8:30-9:00pm ET.

However, the tease will not contain any clips from the show, which is, to be fair, almost a year away from airing. Curious… But we have to assume it’ll give Pablo something to talk about later that week at NYCC.

Rumor: Possible timeline placement for Rebels?

Rebels: The Ghost

Apparently on the latest Bleeding Cool podcast, they reveal a number of details on the new animated show, Rebels. According to Making Star Wars, they give it a more specific date range – eight years after Revenge of the Sith, or 12 before A New Hope. They also have the basic storyline of the show’s premiere movie, but I’ll spare you that due to possible spoilers – head over to either of the links to see/hear it for yourself.

Rebels will debut with the movie on the Disney Channel sometime next fall, with the series following on Disney XD.

And, FYI:
