Roundup: More Star Wars/San Diego announcements

Pepto Vader knows where you liveFirst up, check out some of the exclusives and swag that Star Wars folks will be offering at the con. ($6 from every Gentle Giant pink Vader, right, will go to breast cancer research and education.) There’s even stuff for us folks stuck at home, although the Comic-Con link seems tenuous.

  • Record your own Star Wars memories on the floor of Comic-Con to submit them to Lucasfilm’s historical archive.
  • Reps from Lucasfilm Licensing and Lucasfilm Animation will be on hand for portfolio reviews
  • LucasArts will have events on The Old Republic as well as the chance for fans to play The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes, as well as something at the Star Wars Spectacular. (Great…)

The week in Star Wars and SDCC… So far

The One-Armed Wampa and Death StarObligatory adorableness. A variety of artists transformed blank Mighty Muggs into custom Star Wars figures (including at least two Georges and I think a Steve Sansweet) for The Empire Muggs Back project. The results will be on display at San Diego Comic-Con and auctioned off to raise funds for The Make-A-Wish Foundation. We should get a closer look soon, but for now my favorites are at right.

The lineup. StarWars.com has a list of Star Wars folks appearing at the official and licensee booths.

Begin your planning. The official Comic-Con schedule is up! If you a search on ‘Star Wars’ you’ll see some additional events that may be of interest… Or not.

Is it San Diego Comic Con yet?!?

No. No it is not. But it will be soon, and thus details about the con are coming thick on the ground. We got the general Star Wars event schedule earlier in the week, but now StarWars.com gives us Del Rey’s, including some signings and giveaways like a double-sided Fate of the Jedi/Deathtroopers poster, above. (Far more tempting is the possibility of getting free copies of The Essential Atlas, The Complete Vader and The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia)

  • I’m not going to get a chance to watch/review all the Fan Movie Challenge Finalists before the Friday deadline, so consider this your reminder to head over there and vote for Audience Choice.
  • The Fan Club Breakfast ticket deadline has come and gone, but if you nabbed one, they have a plethora of raffle prizes, including one of those wacky Force Trainers.
  • The Official Pix guest list includes Mark Hamill, Edward James Olmos, several Clone Wars voice actors and some dudes from Chuck.
  • Also… Kotobukiya will be giving away stuff; The Slave Leias will be out in force.

Gate Geek – It’s a New Wave Universe

There’s a building tidal wave of hype for Stargate Universe.

There’ll be a new trailer aired with the premiere of Warehouse13 on SciFi SyFY.  But those lovely, sneaky folks at GateWorld already have it.  (It looks great! Um.  Sorry.)  Plus, the first official episode picture.  It’s akin to the sonogram, I suppose?

In addition, we know that the cast will be making their official debut at ComicCon on Friday.  (Cruel choice for those who are also Star Wars fans.  Thankfully my dislike of crowds keeps me from being put into that position.)

And just what is the official site doing behind that “under construction” sign?

Start planning for San Diego Comic Con!

Because we have a Star Wars schedule. The Clone Wars, The Old Republic and the Fate of the Jedi (with all three authors!) panels are all on Friday. And so is the Star Wars Spectacular, which basically means that all the ‘breaking news’ from it will already be public by the time it’s shown on G4. Nice, by which I mean something unprintable.

Comic-Con Star Wars Spectacular: George Lucas answering questions?

As previously discussed and dissected for hints, this year’s Star Wars Spectacular panel at Comic-Con was going to be hosted by G4’s “Attack of the Show” crew: Kevin Pereira, Olivia Munn, and Blair Butler, and the panel will be broadcast live on G4 on Friday, July 24. The panel will include a live read of a new “The Clone Wars” script by the voice talent.

The announcement on starwars.com came with the opportunity for fans to submit videos to G4 to be shown during the presentation, either telling fan stories, or asking questions about The Clone Wars to the show’s creators, like Dave Filoni.

Word from someone working for G4 is that George Lucas may be answering some of the fans’ questions submitted by video – via pre-recorded video of his own.

So get those questions in, submitted through the G4 site. Key things to note for submitting videos: < 90 seconds long, < 150 MB, and use a white background!

Hopes and expectations for San Diego’s Star Wars Spectacular

The Death Star at CIVSo as I said last week, I pretty firmly believe that Sansweet and company are finally going to bust out the official Celebration V announcement next month at San Diego Comic Con, but I’m not sure that really justifies airing the thing on G4.

Not that C5 wouldn’t be big news for us, but for the general audience at SDCC and G4 it’s not really wait-in-line or tune-in now material. The second season of The Clone Wars and The Old Republic MMO are certain to make appearances, but the TOR trailer is old news and while it’ll be nice to see Disney’s TCW preview in wide and open release, neither of those are exactly earth-shaking.

No, the ante has been upped; I’m expecting – hoping- something big. Like some major news on the live-action series, perhaps? Hasn’t been much solid on that lately, but there have been those rumors flying around about casting and murmurs about possible shooting locations. (And now… John Williams? Not that IMDB is most reliable of sources at this point in the game.) It’s a long shot… But we can hope. For a name, at the very least.

It’s nearly time for San Diego Comic Con…

Good news for those of us geeks who will actually watch it! Now: Make this a trend. Free the cons! Some are worried that G4 will try to sleaze it up, but quite honestly… I can deal, because I’m about 90% sure we’re going to finally get a Celebration V announcement out of this thing.

  • It seems there are still Fan Club Breakfast tickets, if you’re up to being out and about at 7am on a Friday.
  • Nerf Herders Anonymous has a list of Star Wars guests attending the con. It’s mostly Clone Wars people, but hey, Mark Hamill. There are also at least a few authors attending.
