With The Last Jedi out, it “won’t be long” until we see a Solo trailer, director Ron Howard tweeted to a curious fan Monday.
We have yet to have a first trailer for a new Star Wars movie show up unannounced (at least not without a Celebration or other major event in play,) so we can expect a heads-up a day or so before it drops.
The International (aka Japanese) trailer for The Last Jedi is here, and it’s not all that markedly different from the domestic version. It features a handful of new shots (Rey, Threepio, Kylo’s mask) and incorporates some things from the Celebration trailer.
There’s also a new Trailer Council podcast, featuring Amanda Ward (Making Star Wars, Rebel Grrrl,) Chris Taylor (Mashable, How Star Wars Conquered the Universe,) Shana O’Neil (SYFY Fangrrls,) Kyle Newman (Fanboys,) Steele Saunders (Steele Wars,) Anthony Breznican (Entertainment Weekly,) and Holly Frey (Full of Sith.)
Twitter had a nice freak-out this afternoon as a ship resembling the Ghost from the Star Wars Rebels cartoon was spotted in a new TV commercial. (There’s more evidence on the Tumblr.) Easter egg? Cameo? Only time will tell.
And that was only one of several new commercials dropped today. Here’s one, and here’s one and here’s one that’s actually on the official site and in high res! Of course it’s the one with the least new footage.
U.S. Rogue One tickets will go on sale Monday, November 28, Lucasfilm announced last night. They’re expected to be available at 12:01 a.m. from most ticket retailers. If you have a Regal theater, you can get an “Ultimate Ticket” for $100 that will let you see the film once a day as long as it’s in their theaters. Tickets for the film are already on sale in the U.K.
In the meantime, another trailer with a few additional bits of footage debuted on a Disney ABC special yesterday. Here’s a look:
The new international trailer for Rogue One features more of Jyn’s journey, including her mother, Lyra Erso. (Who believes in the Force, and is that a kyber crystal? The shape seems consistent with new canon, at least.) Also, new Death Star and Vader shots, because.
There have been a number of minor reveals in the wake of last week’s Rogue One trailer, mostly via (of course) Entertainment Weekly. We learned that Alistair Petrie’s Rebel officer is General Draven. (And that there apparently was a fan theory that he was Rebels’ Agent Kallus turned turncoat, which is news to me.) We also got a bunch of minor characters via Topps cards, including a blonde X-wing pilot that folks think might be Evaan Verlaine from the comics.
→ If you’re still poring over the trailer, here are breakdowns from EW, io9, and /Film. Plus the latest Full of Sith, which features EW’s Anthony Breznican
→ Also out in recent days is a Hollywood Reporter profile of Felicity Jones, which is pretty informative if you know enough to roll your eyes at the line about anyone expecting Rogue One to match The Force Awakens box office. Meanwhile, Mads Mikkelsen talks to GQ.
→ And finally, here’s a new Rogue One-inspired Duracell commercial that’s getting some attention today:
The second full trailer for Rogue One gives us our first look at Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) and Darth Vader in action, plus more of the rest of the crew. We also learn where the ‘rogue’ comes from!
