SDCC: Another reason to check your mail

E-mail, that is. The Homing Beacon newsletter went out this afternoon with the details on Star Wars events at at Comic Con.

In brief…

  • Friday is Star Wars Day, with panels from LucasBooks/Del Rey, LucasArts, Hasbro, Robot Chicken, trivia with the San Diego Star Wars Society and of course, Steve Sansweet. (5pm, Hall H; check schedule for other panels.)
  • An Indy 4 segment is expected at the Paramount/DreamWorks/Nickelodeon presentation on Thurday in Hall H at 1:30.
  • So far, Official Pix has Dave Prowse and Matthew Wood signing.
  • Fanboys panel Thursday in at 6pm in Room 6 CDEF, also an TBA autograph session with the cast.
  • Some of the Vader Project helmets will be present.

I’ve also received word that LucasArts is setting up in Booth #2913 and will have LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Thrillville: Off The Rails, Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron and Star Wars Galaxies available to play. Their panel, at 12:30pm in Room 1AB, will feature a panel of producers and a discussion of story and character in The Force Unleashed.

UPDATE: StarWars.com reveals all!

SDCC: Six days to go!

Fox pulled out of SDCC the other day, claiming all six films they planned to present weren’t ready. (Among them: Jumper, starring Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson.) Now, according the L.A. Times, they’re reconsidering.

Book announcement at Comic Con!

The Comic Con schedule was released yesterday, and TFN makes note of the Star Wars book panel, which promises:

Keith Clayton (editor, Del Rey) will reveal an exclusive announcement on an upcoming Star Wars title from Del Rey and LucasBooks, just for audience members at Comic-Con!

Very likely not a novel, but certainly could be interesting. Fans are theorizing that it could be the soft-confirmed Atlas of the Star Wars Galaxy.

Video Monday

Don’t miss this – R2-S2, the steam-powered Artoo! Impressive. (Thanks, Bonnie!)

Rifftrax has video samples on Youtube – TPM, AOTC, The Matrix, Daredevil, The Fifth Element, X-Men, LOTR (if you only watch one, watch LOTR) and more. They’re also up on the Rifftrax site.

Someone has put a lot of SDCC masquerade sketches from 2005 and 2006 up on Youtube – including The Modal Nodes, Runaway Bounty, General Grievous and some very familiar pirates

I had no idea Epcot could do that!

Star Wars Spectacular

LFL pushed the nostalgia angle – not surprising with the DVD release and 30-year anniversary.

The big news is LFL flying in 200 501st members and other costumed fans to take part in 2007’s Tournament of Roses Parade. Not much new about Celebration IV – at least the one in L.A. But it was announced that LFL plans to hold another con next year – Celebration Europe, in London next July.

And we finally get something to go on with one of the TV shows – the animated show will take place late in the Clone Wars, and Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda and others will appear.

And it looks like the Secrets of 07 mystery is indeed a game. Focused on the Force and set between ROTS and ANH, it’ll contain both existing and new characters.

In short, there’s a lot going on, so be sure to read the starwars.com report. There are several video clips from the Spectacular available for Hyperspace members as well.
