No, Tim Zahn is not under contract for two more Thrawn books

There was a bit of misinterpretation going on regarding something Timothy Zahn said at a con recently. Zahn himself sets the record straight: He has proposals, but not contracts, for two more Thrawn books… And he doesn’t know anything about Episode IX. It’s simply the nature of the franchise that movies will dictate the rest of the content. (And given that Thrawn went MIA in the Rebels finale, and there’s a brand new cartoon coming up… There are a lot of balls in the air even outside of the films that could have an impact on anything else regarding Thrawn.)

Zahn’s next Star Wars book, Thrawn: Alliances, will be out in July.

Rumor: Obi-wan Kenobi standalone film in pre-production for 2020

It’s time for our perennial Obi-wan movie rumor to resurface! This time it comes via the fan site Fantha Tracks, who has a source that claims to have seen documents at Pinewood. A director (perhaps Stephen Daldry, the subject of the last rumor), writing team and even the art department are “in full pre-production mode,” with the movie expected to begin filming after Episode IX is done.

So about that one Episode IX rumor…

A VERY iffy but extremely interesting Episode IX rumor has emerged this weekend, and it’s of particular interest to long-time readers of our site. This is SUPER SKETCHY information, from a Youtuber no less, but it’s also something I don’t feel I can ignore. Rumor: Will the next Celebration take us back to Anaheim in autumn 2019?

Today’s “rumor” is basically the most probable guesswork for the next Celebration: Fall 2019 in Anaheim. It comes to us via Star Wars News Net, a site I generally don’t trust all that much. But this one does make sense for some key reasons:

1. Episode IX is coming out in December, and for those of us old enough to remember, the original three Celebrations – tied to The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith – all took place about a month out from their respective movies. Remember, Celebration Anaheim in 2015 was planned and announced before The Force Awakens moved from May to December, so this allows for a bit of reorientation.

2. The Galaxy’s Edge expansion in Disneyland is expected to open in Spring 2019.

3. It’s Anaheim’s ‘turn’, and quite frankly I’d be shocked if it wasn’t there, as I expect no domestic Celebrations will ever happen less than 20 minutes drive from a Disney Park ever again.

So yes, it’s completely possible that this will turn out to be true. (But don’t fear to be skeptical, either.) Now, whether anyone will be able to get Fastpasses…

More fuel for the Solo Super Bowl commercial

Jason Ward over at Making Star Wars weighs in on the Solo trailer and the Super Bowl. His source says that “a shorter version of the teaser will hit on the Super Bowl” on Sunday, with a longer one to follow next week. Seems likely enough, but as always, we’ll see!

And because I’m damn sick of that logo, here’s a flashback to Ron Howard giving us our first look at Donald Glover as Lando.
