Rumors: Disneyland’s Star Wars plans on hold?

Vader at Disneyland. Or Disney World? I can't tell. MiceAge has been a primary source for all the rumors of Star Wars attractions in the works for the Disney parks, particularly Disneyland, but their latest dispatch is troubling. Problems with over-budget infrastructure implementations have placed almost all Imagineering projects on hold – or canceled. Here’s the part that pertains to Star Wars:

Originally the plan to add Star Wars to Tomorrowland was going to be divided into two phases; a first phase involving some placemaking and a replacement for Captain EO to be finished prior to the 60th Anniversary, and a second phase kicking off in late 2015. The second phase included the Speeder Bike E Ticket ride, Ewok village and forest where Autopia currently is, a Millenium Falcon walk-thru where the PeopleMover platform is, tearing out the decaying PeopleMover tracks and moving the Astro Orbiter up on top of the Space Mountain concourse, and turning Tomorrowland Terrace into an interactive Tatooine Cantina restaurant show. All of that is now on hold indefinitely. Although Anaheim gets off a bit easier with its Star Wars plan on hold, as the plans for many of these Star Wars elements coming to Disney Hollywood Studios in WDW have just been cancelled outright.

None of this has been officially announced, of course, and it might be bunk for all we know… But this doesn’t give us much hope that for expanded Star Wars features at Disneyland in time for the next Celebration.

Roundup: The Clone Wars rumors, fake Episode VII script

STAR WARS RUMORS: Take seriously at your own risk.Rumors. A Polish fan site (in English from Star Wars Underworld) reported that details of The Clone Wars bonus content release were revealed at a Warsaw event. In short: The show’s ten remaining episodes, subtitled ‘The Lost Missions,’ will air on Disney XD early next year. Trailers were shown – head to Underworld for the details, but it’s worth noting that Pablo says that 10 seems to be to low a number… But note there’s nothing on StarWars.com, so whatever went on, it’s not yet 100% official. (UPDATE: Pablo also says he recognizes “pieces from upcoming episodes.”)

Fakes. There’s a very fake script rattling around. (No, not the audition pages.) It seems to be this one (via,) which is indeed pretty laughable.

Episode VII. J.J. Abrams says that Lawrence Kasdan “has made him raise his game.”

Episode VII rumors du jour: Matt Smith, Jason Flemyng

Matt Smith in Doctor Who The Matt Smith rumors are coming… Could he be the first (former) Time Lord to enter the GFFA? Bleeding Cool reports that the departing Doctor “went in for a role” in Episode VII.

I love Matt Smith and his run on Doctor Who, but would having him show up in Star Wars so soon after his turn as the lead in another iconic sci-fi franchise be a bit too on the nose? In any case, it’s only a report of an audition.

Another name knocking around at the moment – and a bit more solidly than Smith, assuming this isn’t another Funny or Die prank – is Jason Flemyng, who shared some script pages on Instagram. (Since removed, like that’ll help keep things under wrap.) Last time we heard from him he was saying that Matthew Vaughn was the Episode VII director though, so… Pass the salt.

Roundup: Return of the Jedi rounds out trailer day; David Oyelowo on Episode VII rumors

Flashback. Our second retro Return of the Jedi teaser trailer – or the first, if you don’t count Revenge of the Jedi.

Episode VII: David Oyelowo addresses the Star Wars rumors with E!. “The breaking news is J.J. Abrams is going to give you that breaking news,” he said. But… “I’d go anywhere to work with J.J. Abrams. I think what he did with Star Trek was so extraordinary… And I think what he’ll do with Star Wars will be just as impressive.”

Podcasts. Teresa Delgado and Tricia Barr are the latest on the scene with Fangirls Going Rogue. Their first episode, live now, features The Clone Wars’ Catherine Taber.

Rumor: New Mexico still in play for Episode VII

SEQUEL TRILOGY RUMORS: Take seriously at your own risk.Star Wars Underworld has a source who reports that a three-year deal has been signed with Disney for Episode VII to shoot in New Mexico. A production office will open there in January.

We’ve had a variety of rumors taking New Mexico in and out of the equation for the film. The state was first rumored to be a location by local blog Sindication. They still maintain that it’s happening, so there’s plenty of smoke here… But is there any fire? Stay tuned… If there really is a deal in place, we could conceivably hear something soon.

Possible Episode VII open call comes to the U.S

UPDATE: Well! I suppose this counts as a confirmation!

There’s now a slick-looking website for the same Disney open call we saw from the U.K. yesterday, featuring dates in St. Louis, Chicago, Austin, Nashville and just outside Detroit (Troy) and Minneapolis (Bloomington.)

The roles, ‘Rachel’ and ‘Thomas,’ are the same, and this time there are even audition sides. They don’t reveal much, of course, and the setting is clearly generic but it does hint at a possible (incestual? snarky?) romance. And what’s more Star Wars than that?

Roundup: Saoirse Ronan says she’s out of the running for Episode VII

s-ronan200Actors. Saoirse Ronan is no longer in the running for Star Wars. “I don’t have the role,” she tells The Playlist. “I just shouldn’t have said anything. I just auditioned for it, like everyone else did.”

Casting. Word continues to spread about the open call that may (or may not) be for Episode VII. Gary Kurtz talks to The Guardian about the open calls for the original Star Wars and David Prowse shares some advice for the hopefuls with the BBC.

Games Jeremy Conrad of Furious Fanboys thinks the December part of the equation relates to Episode VII and Rebels tie-ins with the Disney Infinity game. As always with gaming, I shrug.

U.K. casting call for Episode VII? Maybe?

The BBC thinks there may be an open call in the U.K. this week for Episode VII.

UPDATE: Bleeding Cool is pretty sure this is for Star Wars, and their sources say that the script change is not as dramatic as was speculated in the days following the script announcement: “the same characters are being sought as several months ago” and “the building blocks of story are staying pretty much untouched.”

In any case, the listing is for two characters, one for a “street smart and strong” teen girl aged 17-18 and the other for a young man 19-23 who can “appreciate the absurdities in life.”

However, the Twitter account that broke this, @UKopencall is brand new (first tweets began Oct. 30) and hasn’t tweeted about anything else: It’s mostly spamming other accounts about these listings! (Spammers. I hate spammers.) For that reason alone I have my doubts, though the name on the account, Claire Curry, does seem to be a legitimate casting assistant. Lucasfilm did decline to comment for the BBC, and if this was false it would be an easy denial for them… And of course it could be for another Disney movie entirely. You could be the new Not-Elizabeth or Not-Will of Pirates of the Caribbean 5! Whatever the case, if you go: Be careful.

UPDATE #2: There are now open casting calls for the same roles in the U.S.

Dare to believe? The listing is below.

Disney marketer: Episode VII aimed for “late 2015” release. Or not?

Dennis Barbie, a retail marketing director for Disney, tweeted today that Episode VII will be coming “end 2015,” giving some weight to the rumors that have the movie aiming for a November or December 2015 release date.

Lando, Han and the Falcon in ROTJIn the wake of last week’s report that Disney and Lucasfilm want different dates, word had it that a late 2015 date was the possible compromise.

In a later tweet Barie said it’s “planned for end of CY15 but in the entertainment business you will never know.” We’re not even penciling anything in until there’s an official announcement, but this is certainly worth noting – to help you place your bets if nothing else.

Uh-huh.
