Roundup: Return of the Jedi rounds out trailer day; David Oyelowo on Episode VII rumors

Flashback. Our second retro Return of the Jedi teaser trailer – or the first, if you don’t count Revenge of the Jedi.

Episode VII: David Oyelowo addresses the Star Wars rumors with E!. “The breaking news is J.J. Abrams is going to give you that breaking news,” he said. But… “I’d go anywhere to work with J.J. Abrams. I think what he did with Star Trek was so extraordinary… And I think what he’ll do with Star Wars will be just as impressive.”

Podcasts. Teresa Delgado and Tricia Barr are the latest on the scene with Fangirls Going Rogue. Their first episode, live now, features The Clone Wars’ Catherine Taber.

Roundup: All this has happened before…

Han Solo is sick of your shit.Rumor roundup. In light of today’s THR report, HuffPo’s Mike Ryan points out that quick turnaround and behind-the-scenes turmoil are nothing new for Star Wars. Meanwhile, Gregory Ellwood and Drew McWeeny at HitFix discuss it, and McWeeny has some wise words for fandom as well. I’m getting pretty sick of all the panic and hand-wringing myself.

Merchandise. I’m a little horrified by this, but at least one Jader was happy to hear that Star Wars Crocs are coming. May the fug be with you?

Audio. James Burns and Mark Newbold of Jedi News are the latest to launch a podcast, RADIO 1138, with the help of the vets at Rebelforce Radio.

Roundup: Speaking sense on the Episode VII rumors

Rumors. Bryan Young and Bobby Roberts discuss last week’s big scriptwriting development on the latest Full of Sith. Seems like Bobby’s being hearing the same things as McWeeny and Faraci. They speak sense, so listen and calm yourselves.

Meanwhile, on the weekend Harrison Ford scoop, Blue Sky Disney revives the “Han Solo gonna die” thing from early on.

Flashback. In the midst of all this, HuffPo’s Mike Ryan looks back at Leigh Brackett and her Empire Strikes Back draft. All this has happened before… And Tor digs up some of Carrie Fisher’s thoughts on Leia from the infamous beach blanket bingo issue of Rolling Stone.

Ugh. The Sarlacc got a mention on last week’s Once Upon A Time in Wonderland.

Roundup: Clone Wars, Rebels, rumors and Threepio, oh my!

FiloniCartoons. Dave Filoni chats with both IGN and StarWars.com about Star Wars cartoons past and present. Mostly The Clone Wars, of course, given the new releases.

Dueling rumors. Jedi News’ Jedi Master SQL says that with John Williams only contracted for movies, J.J. Abrams himself may compose the Rebels theme. But Making Star Wars says it will be Williams doing the theme – and something for at least one other TV show. All-righty then. UPDATE: Michael Giacchino also in the mix?

Podcasting. On that note, Full of Sith’s latest Rumor Control is out, and I’m proud to have joined regulars Bryan Young and Bobby Roberts to chat Rebels (we taped this just hours after the NYCC reveals) and the latest Episode VII news and rumors.

Alumni. Anthony Daniels teased fans about C-3PO appearing in Episode VII, per Business Insider Australia, while Disney themselves teased that the droids would “presumably” return at D23 Expo Japan. Confirmation? Not really, but it’s probably a fairly safe assumption to make.

EUbits: Heddle on the Expanded Universe going forward

HeddleInterviews. Eric and Erik at The ForceCast had LucasBooks editor Jennifer Heddle on their latest episode. The discussion segment begins at about 28 minutes in. At about 50 minues in, Eric asks if there really is “a hold” on books for next year. “There was definitely a little bit of limbo,” Heddle said. But “there will be more books in 2014, we’re just not at the point we can announce them yet.”

Comics. Tim Siedell talks to CBR about his next Star Wars mini-series, ‘Darth Vader and the Cry of Shadows.’

The blogside. At the StarWars.com blog, Jason Fry and Paul Urquhart address The Celestials, while Rich Handley and Abel G. Peña go back to the Marvel days for a look at The Wheel. Brian at Tosche Station compares and contrasts the Leia of the Star Wars comic with the Leia of Razor’s Edge. And I posted an intermediate followup to my beginner’s guide to the EU, because apparently I just don’t devote enough time to writing about Star Wars as it is.

Reviews. James is pleased with the mysteries deepening in Legacy #7.

Podcasts: Dunc talks Club Jade on Full of Sith, the Forcecast takes on Star Wars diversity

I always feel weird about self-pimping (mostly,) but so be it: I’m a guest on the most recent episode of Full of Sith, with hosts Mike Pilot and our pal/translator Bryan Young. We talked about Episode VII and the sequels, Mara, running fan site and, of course, Club Jade.

In other recent podcasts that are relevant to our very specific interests, Bria of Tosche Station and Tricia of Fangirl Blog were on the Forcecast to discuss diversity and gender in Star Wars.

Roundup: Abrams says Episode VII features a central love story? Not so fast.

abrams-junketEpisode VII. There have been a few reports that J.J. Abrams told a French newspaper that Episode VII would feature a central love story, mostly based on a write-up from Contact Music. But I’ve found what I believe to be the original article from Metro News and – per the translated version – there’s nothing above there being a love story in the film, though he does indeed speak highly of Michael Arndt. While it’s certainly not out of the question that there’ll be a major love story in the new trilogy, I don’t think that’s something you can safely quote Abrams on yet – unless there’s a longer version of this interview out there somewhere.

Podcasts. Composer Kevin Kiner talked to the folks at Full of Sith last week, and he told them that they’re working on about ten episodes of The Clone Wars for the bonus material. Meanwhile, this week Mike and Bryan chat with Corey Dee Williams (yes, Billy’s son) about working on Return of the Jedi.
