Okay, so Grievous and the clonetrooper aren’t so bad, but Anakin and Obi-Wan are freaking me the hell out. If you disagree, or simply want to sent me the head of one in a box, they’re only $9.99 today at Kids.Woot.
Bad wrong merchandise of the day: Sarlacc fail
Really, Hasbro? No one objected to this? Yes, we know where the ultimate blame falls, but still. Really?
In less wince-worthy toy stuff, get up close and personal with the repackaged Comic Packs, as well as the news ones such as Darth Krayt & Sigel Dare, Lumiya & Luke, Beefy the Vong & Kyle Katarn and the news-to-me Emperor’s Hand Imperial Shuttle.
The fandom minute: L/M on Etsy, Star Wars car culture, 70’s school stuff, Palpy’s plummet, and cake!
There really is something for everyone on Etsy. I’m prepping a few posts for next week, and I ran across a Luke and Mara Wedding cake topper. (What a post-ROTJ EU pairing has to do with The Clone Wars I have no idea.) The seller, Hildoom, also has a Yoda Birthday Cake topper for sale.
Cars. Jalopnik is on something of a streak, exploring the hot rod culture of Star Wars and likening the ABT Audi R8 V10 to something that “Anakin’s coke dealer” would drive.
Back to school. StarWars.com takes a look back at the 70’s with retro class cear from Helix.
Lists. Palpatine makes #1 on Sci-Fi Squad’s top ten sci-fi deaths.
Cakes. A neat Millenium Falcon by Da Bombe Desserts.
If only… io9 suggests swapping the writing staffs of The Clone Wars and the The Venture Brothers, which may be the only way to get me to cheerfully watch the former.
Let the Halloween costume mocking officially begin!
Star Wars Shop has a bunch of standard original trilogy costumes – your cheapie Hans, Lukes, and stormtroopers and et cetera – but perhaps the most horrifying? The Jabba costume. What self-respecting adult would wear this in real life? Sadly, I’m pretty sure there are several of you out there. And I demand photos.
Though I have to love that they picked the lost Backstreet Boy to model Luke, and one of the Hardy Boys for Han.
If you’re still dying for that Boba Fett hoodie…
Most of the Marc Ecko Star Wars stuff is on sale. Which pretty much means it’s now priced like normal clothes.
SDCC ’09 roundup: Star Wars Day in the afternoon
Fine, I cave: I’ll be updating this throughout the afternoon/evening, at least until the Spectacular… Unless something huge breaks!
The sun says hello. Afternoon for me, anyway: All this was morning for California, and you can tell because StarWars.com has snapshots from the Fan Club Breakfast, and more from TFN. (5:20e)
All the wonderful toys. They also have Hasbro’s presentation. The Comic Packs are mostly things we’ve already seen, but I think the Exar Kun and Ulic Qel Droma are new. Walmart is getting an exclusive Corran Horn/Whistler and Rouge Squadron #1 two-pack (Dllr Nep and Plourr Ilo?) while Target will have a Wedge with X-Wing.
But the biggest news in here for us is that they’re adding Jacen and Jaina Solo to the Droid Factory line in 2010! Meanwhile, future Comic Packs will include Legacy’s Delia Blue/Darth Nihl and KOTOR’s Jarael/Rohlan Dyre. (5:20e)
Something something in 3-D. EU Cantina was tweeting live from The Clone Wars panel. Tidbits include S2 tone, comments on rogue Jedi and the unlikliness of a second movie. (5:20e)
Video: Even collectibles get teaser trailers now
And here I was thinking that book trailers were kind of ridiculous….
SDCC ’09 quickie: CV, ‘In Concert’ comes to America
First off, TFN was reporting earlier that something from Hasbro was touting a 2010 Celebration V. (Their website now says “the next Star Wars Celebration.”) Presumably TFN caught an earlier version, but the site seems to be a victim of SDCC web traffic, and it’s down.
As for official announcements, we now have the details of the Star Wars: In Concert (aka The Musical Journey) ‘worldwide’ tour, courtesy of a spiffy (and noisy) new site, StarWarsInConcert.com. The tour begins in Anaheim, California in October, with furthur dates in Pheonix, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Jose, Seattle, Portland, Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Presumably more dates, perhaps more international ones or even something in the general vicinity of Detroit, are forthcoming.
And finally, The Force Trainer is now in the Star Wars Shop.
SDCC ’09 photo: From the con floor
Our own JawaJames, a San Diego native, is posting Comic-Con pics on his Flickr. Above, the Lucasfilm pavilion!
Of course, Mary, Bonnie, Pablo and crew are also in town, taking and posting a ton of floor photos from the con. You guys feast on them (Preview night and set up, so far,) watch the StarWars.com blog and keep an eye on the usual fansites, and I’ll be back later today to gather more links.
Wacky merchandise: R2-D2, the toilet paper cozy
From Japan (of course,) the R2-D2 Toilet Tissue Dispenser. Strange, I would think that would be more of a Threepio sort of job. Witness: Continue reading “Wacky merchandise: R2-D2, the toilet paper cozy”
