Rumor: Luke and Yoda to chat in Episode VII?

"Hot and young will I be, hmm?"

SEQUEL TRILOGY RUMORS: Take seriously at your own risk.This site is a bit of a laughingstock even among veteran rumormongers, but we’re bored so what the hell: Cosmic Book News is reporting that Luke’s going to be having a chat with a ghostly Yoda in Episode VII. “We’re told that Yoda will have words with Luke Skywalker about a rising unbalance in the force and the need to preserve the Jedi,” they say. The new Jedi Temple will also feature holograms of past Jedi like Obi-Wan (Sir Alec “McGuiness” version,) Qui-Gon Jinn, and Mace Windu in the background.

Plausible? Sure. But I’d take this one with a bigger grain of salt than usual.

In brief. This is the greatest beginner’s guide to the Expanded Universe ever. I am not kidding. You’ll laugh, then you’ll cry from laughing. Oh, and a pretty cool Skywalker-Solo family tree.

On that note… What is my favorite official Mara Jade art? It’s not a big surprise because it’s been chilling in the masthead fora while now, but here’s the full scan.

Crafts. A Star Wars felt crib mobile that will automatically make your child 20% cooler. And let’s not forget the shoes: The Sith ones have spikes – the Artoo ones have Artoo, and I’m way more chill with them now that I see that the action figure isn’t actually standing in for the heel.

Fact you can use. What’s the problem with boob-shaped armor? Enter a new realm of fantasy nit-picking.

Photoshoppery. This may be self-serving, but I posted all the sequel/spinoff graphics I’ve done so far. ALIENS.

Mark Hamill: “They’re talking to us” about Episode VII

Mark Hamill with Lawrence Noble's sculpture at Celebration Europe / Photo by Bonnie Burton / starwarsblog @ Flickr.comHey, some actual sorta kinda casting news!  Entertainment Tonight spoke to Mark Hamill who revealed that he was approached — by George Lucas himself — about appearing in Episode VII.  And he indicates that he wasn’t the only one who may be coming back:

“He did say that if we didn’t want to do it, they wouldn’t cast another actor in our parts – they would write us out… we’re in the stage where they want us to go in and meet with Michael Arndt, who is the writer, and Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm.  Both have had meetings set that were postponed — on their end, not mine. They’re more busy than I am.”

Still, he stresses that no contracts have been signed — which perhaps blows a hole in the Harrison Ford rumor — and that he hopes everyone is on board (Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels included), “rather than just one.”  He also weighs in on what he’d like to see in the sequels, as well as the standalone movies.  Worth checking out the whole interview.

Mark Hamill: “I think it’s better to let Lucasfilm make the announcements.”

Mark Hamill’s new movie, Sushi Girl, had its premiere last night, so of course Hamill’s being asked about Episode VII.

“I just know that nothing’s been decided, whether we’re in or out,” he said to Coming Soon. But don’t expect any a Carrie-style snarking: “Until I know more about what they have in mind, I think it’s better to let Lucasfilm make the announcements,” he told E!

Meanwhile, SFX asked him where he’d see an older Luke Skywalker:

I remember when we were making the first trilogy I thought… When I realized they were gonna make the princess my sister, I said, “You know where this is headed? It’s headed for Obi-Wan territory, where I’m in a desolate hovel, as an elderly recluse.” But I’ve heard other ideas, like you say – somebody who’s training Jedi.

“I never, ever dreamed that we would do any more movies. And so I really sort of let it go,” he said.

Revenge of the 6th: Our news overflowth

May 4th stuff was a busy Friday, Saturday wasn’t much better, and a whole bunch of stuff got lost in the shuffle. As we nurse our Avengers hangover, here it is.

MTV has wondered why Luke Skywalker got no love from the famous folks, asking our pal Bryan Young why not.

Geekmom is throwing a Star Wars week. So far, they’ve highlighted a video on the 501st and the Rebel Legion, are giving away a GPS and interviewed the Wampug.

The Hollywood Reporter looked at where the stars of Star Wars are now. You probably know that already.

There was a couple at Kotaku: A look at Masters of Teräs Käsi, which they call ‘possibly the worst Star Wars video game ever made,’ as well as great moments of Star Wars gaming. And, finally, why Battlefront III was cancelled.

Entertainment Weekly highlight ten things ‘worth celebrating,’ mostly EU stuff.

And finally, Chris Hardwick pimped Course of the Force on Today. He also revealed that they’ve build a sail barge that we’ll see at Celebration VI.

The catchup: One dad introduces the saga to his kids

Sunday reader. Using the Blu-rays, Hitfix’s Drew McWeeny is showing the Star Wars movies to his two sons for the first time. It’s a great story (they’ve seen Clone Wars but nothing else) and probably one of the best articles (and certainly the most detailed) that I’ve read on kid’s reactions to the saga. In order: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, The Phantom Menace, Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith, with the Return of the Jedi entry coming on Thursday. A great read, whether you’ve shown the movies to kids yet or not.

Occupy Coruscant? Twitter’s favorite minions of evil, Death Star PR, takes time out of their busy planet-blasting schedule to debunk Luke Skywalker’s assertion that he is part of the 99%.

EUbits: Character Encyclopedia, Jedi Path TPB coming

New stuff! We’ve got an announcement for a Star Wars Character Encyclopedia from DK. I hope this means we’re not getting a mean we’re not getting a new Essential Guide to Characters from Del Rey, since the DK version promises only “Star Wars live action movie saga” characters in the same style as The Clone Wars Character Encyclopedia. (Though I do expect this will be geared towards the younger fans than an Essential Guide, given the company it’s keeping.) It’s coming in June.

In less perplexing news the link also contains the news that a trade edition of Daniel Wallace’s The Jedi Path is coming in September.
