Stand down, scaredy geeks: Disney and ABC are not planning to ignore the Star Wars live-action series

ABC entertainment president Paul Lee tells Entertainment Weekly that the network isn’t going to be ignoring the live-action series.

“We’d love to do something with Lucasfilm, we’re not sure what yet,” Lee exclusively told EW. “We haven’t even sat down with them. We’re going to look at [the live-action series], we’re going to look at all of them, and see what’s right. We weren’t able to discuss this with them until [the acquisition] closed and it just closed. It’s definitely going to be part of the conversation.”

Some of the financial concerns that Lucasfilm faced producing the series on their own are moot under the Disney deal, the article points out. Lee compares it to the Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. show that ABC is also working on.

They also have what might be the most detailed summary we have yet to see… From ‘sources,’ mind:

Sources say the live-action series centers on the story of rival families struggling over the control of the seedy underside of the Star Wars universe and the people who live within the subterranean level and air shafts of the metropolis planet Coruscant (the Empire’s urban-sprawl-covered home planet). A bounty hunter may be the main character.

And apparently some of the concept and character designs are being used in 1313

They also, I think, are the first to reveal that Ron Moore (Battlestar Galactica) may be involved…

  1. I’m a little afraid here. If I see an actual episode of the Star Wars live action tv show show written by, Ron Moore I may combust.

  2. Yeah, that’s the first time Ron Moore has been named dropped. They don’t mention “Underworld” and call it 1313 at the end, which is a little bit of an eyebrow raiser for me.

I hope we see this. I do have to admit that the film series has made this less important to me than it once was. But I can’t get enough Star Wars so I’m in.

  3. Underworld wasn’t meant to be an official title, just a working one, so I’m glad they left that out. No more throwing fuel on that fire.

  4. Ron Moore. Rival families. Criminal underworld. didn’t we already have that with Caprica?

but wow.. Ron Moore taking on Star Wars would be awesome.

  5. Not sure if I still believe EW: Their sequel coverage was seriously messed up, selling old rumors as facts and getting other stuff completely wrong. The LAS 1313 connection seems to be there but I doubt they have new sources for the plot part. I rather think they recycled a few old rumors again.
Other than that: Go ABC. :-)

  6. Yeah. I think the only thing I’d really trust here are the quotes from the ABC guy, which is why I stuck a ‘rumor’ tag on it….

  7. Am I the only one who isn’t moved by the underworld themes in Star Wars, lately?

But yes. Concept at initial development and final show could be two entirely different things.

  8. Heh, you know you’re not. I haven’t heard anything about this series that makes me all that interested in actually watching it… I certainly won’t shed any tears if they do put it back on the shelf.
