It might be hard to tell if you have a tendency to spend too much time on social media, but The Last Jedi isn’t having any trouble selling Blu-rays and DVDs. 2017’s top box office earner is now leading home video sales charts “by a wide margin,” per Variety. Second placer Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which debuted at #1 last week, only sold 29% as much as The Last Jedi this week.

New Solo trailer debuts Sunday
A new Solo trailer is debuting Sunday, official accounts are teasing. There’s a promo out there that pegs it as appearing during ABC’s American Idol reboot, which starts at 8:00 p.m. (Since it’s not football season, but honestly… I’d rather watch football. Luckily, it’s 2018 and we have Twitter and Youtube.)

French car commercial gives us a look at Solo’s Conveyex
A Renault commercial features Solo’s Conveyex, Chewbacca, Millennium Falcon and speeder bike gang.
Keeping with the French, we’ve also learned an interesting detail about one of the film’s antagonists. Several new publicity images/posters have also appeared.
New Last Shot excerpt with Sana Starros
Our second excerpt from Daniel José Older’s Last Shot – the Solo tie-in novel – features Sana Starros. Starros first appeared in Marvel’s Star Wars comic back in 2015, and has been a regular in the comics ever since. Last Shot will be her first time in a novel.
The first excerpt, from March, is a moment of Han with baby Ben. Last Shot will be out in hardcover and eBook on April 17.
Tony Gilroy on Rogue One: “It was just a mess”
The drama du jour is one that’s a bit more stale than yesterday’s but so much more dramatic: Tony Gilroy on Rogue One. The film was in “terrible, terrible trouble,” he said on The Moment With Brian Koppelman podcast. Continue reading “Tony Gilroy on Rogue One: “It was just a mess””
Solo is going to Cannes
Solo: A Star Wars Story will be making its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, the festival has announced. The film will premiere on May 15, ten days before the official May 25 release date, per Deadline, who was first to report the news.
This isn’t a Star Wars first: Both Attack of the Clones in 2002 and Revenge of the Sith in 2005 had their debuts at the festival. The festival’s history with the franchise goes back a lot further than that, though.
Solo is the first Star Wars movie since Sith to be released in May.
Director Ron Howard brought The Da Vinci Code to Cannes in 2006, and Lucasfilm’s Willow way back in 1988.
Simon Pegg weighs in on Rey’s parents
Our old friend the Rey parentage discourse, which was seemly settled in The Last Jedi, came rearing back today thanks to Simon Pegg, who’s pals with The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams and played Jakku heavyweight Unkar Plutt in the film.
How to up your Star Wars news IQ
There’s a lot of Star Wars misinformation floating around right now. There’s the brouhaha with the Brazilian posters, the Solo report that stoked every fanboy “fear” and finally, the whole recast-Meryl-Streep-as-Leia petition that got manhandled into a “rumor” by the unscrupulous.
Grease traps ahoy: The Solo/Denny’s alliance has officially begun
Denny’s did a big reveal of their Solo stuff today, beginning with Collider debuting a commercial for the promotion. The commercial may be for the restaurant, but the set is a recreation of the one from the film, with Solo production designer Neil Lamont and creature supervisor Neal Scanlan on board, per io9. The fateful card game between Han and Lando takes place there, and the creatures are mostly from the movie as well. Continue reading “Grease traps ahoy: The Solo/Denny’s alliance has officially begun”
