Big thanks to Stephanie and Katie from becker&mayer for filling us in on these cool books!

SDCC: Interview with J. W. Rinzler on The Making of Return of the Jedi and The Star Wars

On Saturday at Comic-Con, I had a chance to sit down with Lucasfilm’s J. W. Rinzler to discuss his upcoming works: The Making of Return of the Jedi, The Making of … ebooks with enhanced content, and The Star Wars, the eight-issue comic portraying the original draft screenplay of George Lucas for Star Wars. Big thanks to Mr. Rinzler for the interview, and Del Rey for their secret press room.

SDCC: Interview with John Jackson Miller on Kenobi, Overdraft, and more

While at Comic-Con in San Diego, I got the chance to sit down with Star Wars author John Jackson Miller to discuss his upcoming novel Kenobi, his recently published sci-fi work Overdraft: The Orion Offensive, and his other upcoming projects, and a Kenobi giveaway from Del Rey at Comic-Con.

And below, Miller gets a surprise visit from Lisa Curtis (dressed as Miller’s character Zayne Carrick from Knights of the Old Republic comics), who presents him with an honorary membership in Rebel LegionSDCC-john-jackson-miller-rebel-legion

SDCC: Honor Among Thieves cover reveal and other tweets from the Del Rey Star Wars panel

Honor Among ThievesAt Del Rey’s Star Wars panel at SDCC today, they revealed the cover for for James S.A. Corey’s Honor Among Thieves, in addition to saying the book is in the same vein as the classic Brian Daley novels!

We’re not expecting big news, but anything could happen… Attending were authors Jeffrey Brown, Troy Denning, John Jackson Miller, and J. W. Rinzler, Del Rey editor Frank Parisi and Lucasfilm’s Jennifer Heddle and Leland Chee.

They also discuss Kenobi, The Making of Return of the Jedi, and Brown’s followup to Vader’s Little Princess… And nothing about Crucible, Sword of the Jedi, or the Kemp books. On hold, indeed.

SDCC: Tweets from the Dark Horse Star Wars panel

There were no big announcements at the Dark Horse Star Was panel at San Diego Comic-Con – though an upcoming Vader series will heavily feature a clone trooper – but plenty of chat on their current lineup. CBR has a write-up of the panel as well.

Tweets, from our own Jawajames and others, are beneath the cut.

EUbits: Lucasbooks get some serious ink

Below the fold, but hey.

Before we get any deeper into the SDCC madness…

Press. LucasBooks and the Expanded Universe was highlighted in an article that appeared on the front page of Friday’s Wall Street Journal. (That’s the print version above.) It’s situated behind a paywall online, but there are ways around that. Writer Alexandra Alter appeared on NPR to talk further about it on Tuesday.

The Star Wars. J.W. Rinzler talks about the upcoming comic with CBR, while artist Mike Mayhew chats with Bleeding Cool.

Crucible. There’s another Troy Denning interview at Lightsaber Rattling. Shockingly enough, not everyone agrees with what he had to say about Jaina Solo. And here’s a video that features Denning talking last week in Minnesota.

Namesake corner. Mara again? Here’s a new piece of art from the new card game, by Anthony Foti. She also made the cover of the latest expansion, and you can see she’s on at least one more card there, too.

SDCC: Peek at Her Universe’s new booth, Lucasfilm’s Pavilion

Her Universe's new MEGA BOOTH

With preview night at San Diego Comic-Con nigh, Her Universe posted a photo of their new mega-booth. And over at the StarWars.com blog, Mary Franklin shares a look at the Lucasfilm Pavilion. Galactic Hunter has pics from tonight as well.

And here are the Mara and Jaina shirts! For real!

A closer look at Hasbro’s new Mara Jade figure

Hasbro's Black Series Mara Jade (carded)Hasbro's Black Series Mara Jade

The pictures from the second wave of Hasbro’s Black Series are out, and thus, another look at their latest Mara Jade figure. Thanks to Yodanews for the pics!

This Mara figure – Hasbro’s third – started as the 2011 Fan’s Choice – as Mara Jade Skywalker, actually. (Curious, but not particularly so.) The sculpt was revealed at Celebration VI and moved to the Black Series earlier this year. It should be available… Well, I’ve heard the fall, but who knows. I’ll keep an eye out.

Our first look at Kotobukiya’s Mara Jade

Sketch for Kotobukiya's Mara Jade statue

Sure, she’s in the catsuit, because of course she is, but it’s still pretty neat. This sketch, by Shunya Yamashita, was posted on the Kotobukiya Facebook today. (Thanks to @ASMzine for bringing it to our attention!)

Kotobukiya will be part of the Star Wars: Collectibles Update panel Friday at SDCC. Mara will be their second EU figure – Jaina Solo was the first.

UPDATE 7/19: According to reports from SDCC, the Mara statue will be out February 2014, and the Jaina one will be re-released.
