Report: Cassian Andor series to film starting in June

The Disney+ Cassian Andor series will begin shooting in June, Discussing Film reports. The series, a prequel to Rogue One, will star Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk (K-2SO) reprising their film roles.

They’re also looking to cast two younger versions of Cassian – at 9 and 13 – plus his 9-year-old sister, the site says.

We heard in October that one of Rogue One’s writers, Tony Gilroy, had joined the series. Stephen Schiff (The Americans) is the showrunner.

The Obi-Wan series also begins filming this summer, so it’s anyone’s guess as to which will make it to Disney+ first. But we can probably expect the second season of The Mandalorian first, as it’s currently filming.

Josh Gad is still after Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars secrets and more Rise of Skywalker news

The latest The Rise of Skywalker spot features a new shot of Leia – with Rose Tico, Dominic Monaghan’s Beaumont Kin and Snap Wexley in the background.

Josh Gad takes his pestering of Daisy Ridley full corporate with the help of a chorus line full of Disney stars – including Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Diego Luna, Alan Tudyk and even John Boyega – but she doesn’t break. Again.

It’s undercover mission time on Resistance’s ‘Station to Station’

The Rise of Skywalker (Trailer #2)

Here’s what Disney wants awards voters to consider for The Rise of Skywalker.

SPOILER WARNING: Also up is John Williams’ score. While the link has no track titles, they were in the metadata and have been named elsewhere. There’s nothing quite on the level of ‘Qui-Gon’s Noble End’, but if you’re particularly spoiler-averse, please avoid all the usual suspects. (And I wouldn’t listen to the audio, either.) If you’re not, you probably don’t need me to say they’re on Reddit, but… They’re on Reddit. Thus endth anything that could be considered a spoiler.

Star Wars out this week: The last Doctor Aphra (until spring)

Two brand new comics and a trade collection are dropping on Wednesday, December 11. The big one here is Doctor Aphra #40, closing out Marvel’s first original character Star Wars series. (Don’t worry, she’ll be back in April with an all-new creative team.) There’s also Target: Vader #6. You can preview both issues at StarWars.com.

If you’re a trade reader, Aphra Volume 6 collects the ‘Unspeakable Rebel Superweapon’ arc.

We can expect at least two more comics before The Rise of Skywalker drops – the Star Wars: Empire Ascendant wrap-up issue, and The Rise of Kylo Ren #1. Both are on the shipping list for next week.

As for future releases, we’re not seeing many books until The Rise of Skywalker comes out – but there is a fairly solid rumor making the rounds that The Art of Rise of Skywalker has been pushed back to spring. Personally, I don’t mind – I hate that the earliest releases have to dance around movie spoilers so things don’t leak – but I also really enjoy the art books so adding a few more months is a bit irritating. It’s still being listed as coming out the 20th at the moment, but I don’t find this terribly implausible so we’ll see how things fall in the next few days.

Friendship, flashing lights, and other things you’ll find in Rise of Skywalker (and other news)

A new featurette showcases the on-set friendships – primarily Daisy, John and Oscar – of The Rise of Skywalker.

Disney has issued a warning to theaters about The Rise of Skywalker containing sequences with flashing lights that could cause seizures in those with photosensitive epilepsy. They’re working with the Epilepsy Foundation to get the news out.

Will we see Rey, Finn and Poe on screen after Rise of Skywalker? (And other news)

What would it take to get John Boyega to return to Star Wars? Not streaming, he jokes to Variety: “You ain’t going to Disney Plus me!” But he says he would come back for a movie “as long as Daisy and Oscar are down for it.”

They are both less enthusiastic about the prospect: “[I’m] happy and feeling fulfilled that the task is complete,” Isaac says. “So I can’t imagine what it would be that would make me want to redo this thing or revisit it.” He’s also not very keen on taking Poe to Disney+.

Ridley says “I just don’t know if anything could top this one, honestly… it would have to be so extraordinary [to return], and I don’t know if that’s possible.”
