Del Rey’s Erich Schoeneweiss updated fans on Facebook today with a few release dates. Martha Wells’ untitled Leia novel is the first of the Rebels series to drop, with an October 29 release. (Erich mentions that it’s moving up a week, but I’m pretty sure this is the first time they’ve given us a date publically.)
Meanwhile, John Jackson Miller’s Kenobi moves up a whole month, from September 24 to August 27. As always, our book release schedule has been updated!
I love John Jackson Miller, so I’m kinda sorta looking forward to Kenobi but the truth is: I expect absolutely nothing. Unless they bring in a fight between Obi-Wan and a Krayt Dragon. And I think they should.
As for the Leia novel: I’m trying hard to care but I really don’t. If there weren’t any more movies on the horizon, I might be interested but the way things are it seems to be a fairly superfluous book. And sure, I’ll read it if you guys feel it’s a must-read but I find it very hard to give a damn when there are sequels coming that could (and probably will) blow everything we seem to know about the Big Three to bits. Or in other words: Why should I care when everything set in that specific era has become more than doubtful?
In an interview with Jedi Journals, somebody from Del Rey said that the Kenobi book definitely explains how Ben knows the Krayt Dragon call. So I would be surprised if we didn’t see a fight.
