At San Diego Comic-Con, James caught up with John Jackson Miller, author of Kenobi and the upcoming Rebels prequel novel, A New Dawn.

Today sees the release of John Jackson Miller’s (award-winning!) Kenobi in paperback. I liked the book back when it first came out, giving it a grade of B+ in my review.
Meanwhile, another Dark Horse comic wraps up on Wednesday with Rebel Heist #4.
John Jackson Miller’s Kenobi wins a tie-in award
The Scribe Awards, put on by the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers, have been awarding tie-in writing for the past eight years. This year, John Jackson Miller won the Speculative Novel category for Kenobi.
Several Star Wars books have been nominated for the awards before (including Miller himself) this is the first Star Wars win, though Star Wars authors Alan Dean Foster, A. C. Crispin and Kevin J. Anderson have all been honored as Grandmasters.
EUbits: New Rebellion-era miniseries coming from Dark Horse
News. Dark Horse revealed a new miniseries by Mind MGMT’s Matt Kindt, Rebel Heist, on Comic Book Resources last week. The four-issue series starts with a Han Solo issue in April and will feature art by Marco Castiello (Purge.)
Excerpt. There’s a bunch of Maul: Lockdown available at Random House’s catalog.
Interviews. John Ostrander and artist Jan Duursema are also on Comic Book Resources, talking Dawn of the Jedi, while Ostrander talks to Eleven-ThirtyEight.
Notes. John Jackson Miller has added production notes for Kenobi to his site.

Razor’s Edge. Fangirl has some exclusive art of the book’s cast, plus an interview with artist Magali Villeneuve. (Follow the link to see the whole thing!) Street date shuffle. Can we still call it ‘street’ date for an eBook? The hardcover Making of Return of the Jedi will still be out on October 1.

EUbits: Razor’s Edge makes the blog rounds, Essential Characters pushed back to 2016
Lots of Leia. Lots of goodies are coming up on the Razor’s Edge blog tour. There are Martha Wells interviews at Fiction State of Mind and TFN and, with excerpt, on the Her Universe Facebook. Plus another excerpt from Star Wars Books and on Suvudu, an interview with White Hot Room’s Bria about her Razor’s Edge Leia costume.
Upcoming. Has the new Essential Characters been pushed back to 2016? It looks like it, from what Knights’ Archive has discovered. Making room for Episode VII characters? They also spotted the first Rebels tie-ins, which are coming in August 2014 from Disney Press.
Kenobi. John Jackson Miller got some pixels at Publisher’s Weekly upon the occasion of Kenobi being a bestseller; He’ll be chatting with Star Wars Books next Wednesday. In the meantime, there’s a new interview at Knights Archive.
Review. James thinks Star Wars #9 has good revelations for Vader and Leia, but only meh on Han’s part.
EUbits: Editor Jennifer Heddle pens Leia short story
Short stories. Star Wars Books announced last night that Lucasfilm editor Jennifer Heddle has written a young Leia Organa novel for Star Wars Insider #145. “Constant Spirit” features Leia before A New Hope, and Heddle thinks it’s “one of the earliest-set stories about Leia there’s been, if not the earliest.” The issue will be on newsstands October 22, and in subscriber mailboxes a week or so before that.
Chats. Star Wars Books also had a Facebook chat with James Arnold Taylor the other day. (About… Kenobi? I guess?) There’s even an official edited transcript. There’ll be a John Jackson Miller chat soon, but no details yet.
Interviews. Speaking of Miller, he did a bunch of Kenobi interviews. Check them out at Suvudu, Tosche Station, Eleven Thirty-Eight and TFN. Yes, there are more, but Miller himself has rounded ’em up and he’d know better than I.
DRAGONCON! Tosche Station Radio was on location at DragonCon, and they shared their experience with those of us who had to play along at home. Check out their audio of panels with Star Wars authors, fan activities and the panel on women and minorities in the franchise, featuring Club Jade’s own Luci! They also caught Tim, Mike, and Aaron conspiring!

Star Wars: Kenobi came out in hardcover this past Tuesday, and you’ve already seen Dunc’s review on John Jackson Miller’s novel set under the Tusken suns. Hint: she gave it an B+. And we know know critical she can be.

Review: Miller’s Kenobi is a fun Star Wars read
Kenobi is John Jackson Miller’s second Star Wars novel and his first featuring a movie character, and quite possibly the best one of the year thus far.
This is a Star Wars novel fitting firmly in the current trend of books that require one to know very little beyond the films themselves. In fact, it’s exactly the kind of novel whose lack we’ve been mourning for quite some time: An character-centric adventure that doesn’t have galaxy-shaking consequences and is none the less exciting or interesting for it.

You’ll finally be able to pick up John Jackson Miller’s Kenobi on Tuesday, but in the meantime, there are Miller interviews at Eleven-ThirtyEight and Fangirl. There’s an excerpt read by James Arnold Taylor and a look at the book’s geography as well… And my review will be up tomorrow.
Also out on Tuesday is Jeffrey Brown’s Jedi Academy. The author of Darth Vader and Son and Vader’s Little Princess now has a bigger book that is a Diary of a Wimpy Kid take on being in a Jedi middle school, under Yoda. Check out Bleeding Cool’s preview of the book, or watch the book’s trailer.
Meanwhile, in comics, Legacy #6 is out on Wednesday.
Our next novel, Martha Wells’ Empire and Rebellion: Razor’s Edge, will be out on September 24th, while the highly anticipated The Making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi by J. W. Rinzler is out October 1.
