Everything is geared up towards Celebration right now – including me, which is why this post is a day later than usual. But there’s still two brand new comics and a reprint coming on Wednesday, April 10.Continue reading “Star Wars out this week: Leia, Tarkin launch Age of Rebellion”
Poe, Leia and the First Order heavy-hitters return in this week’s “Station Theta-Black.”
Poe and Kaz find an abandoned First Order mining facility in the Unknown Regions. Unfortunately BB-8 discovers the facility isn’t so abandoned!
More pictures and a clip under the cut.
“Station Theta-Black” will be available Sunday, December 9 on the DisneyNOW app and Disney Channel VOD at 12:01 a.m. PT, or airs on the Disney Channel at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
We see Poe Dameron, BB-8 and even a glimpse of Phasma. Here’s some more details from StarWars.com:
We’re also thrilled to bring you intel on the first episode! In the one-hour premiere “The Recruit,” Poe and BB-8 assign Kaz to the Colossus, where he meets a cast of colorful new aliens, droids and creatures. While undercover to spy on the growing threat of the First Order, Kaz works as a mechanic and lives with Poe’s old friend Yeager — a veteran pilot who operates a starship repair shop run by his crew: Tam, Neeku and a battered old astromech called Bucket.
“Can you imagine what it’s like to be an ace pilot?” Kaz asks.
Lucasfilm has also sent out the cast list with who’s playing who:
– Christopher Sean as Kazuda Xiono
– Suzie McGrath as Tam Ryvora
– Scott Lawrence as Jarek Yeager
– Myrna Velasco as Torra Doza
– Josh Brener as Neeku Vozo
– Donald Faison as Hype Fazon
– Jim Rash and Bobby Moynihan as Flix and Orka, respectively
– Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron
– Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma
– Rachel Butera as General Leia Organa
The series was created by Lucasfilm Animation’s Dave Filoni. The Clone Wars/Rebels vets Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ Brandon Auman are the executive producers, with another LFL vet, Amy Beth Christenson, as art director.
J.J. Abrams’ Episode IX will begin filming on August 1 at London’s Pinewood Studios, StarWars.com has announced, confirming that Billy Dee Williams, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher (via unused The Force Awakens footage) will be returning.
Interestingly, the release calls IX “the final installment of the Skywalker saga.”
As expected, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Anthony Daniels, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd are also returning. They’re being joined by new (to Star Wars) faces, Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant.
More details on the Fisher footage:
The role of Leia Organa will once again be played by Carrie Fisher, using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. “We desperately loved Carrie Fisher,” says Abrams. “Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
Composer John Williams and Director of Photography Dan Mindel are also returning.
A new book by Amy Ratcliffe will profile 75 Star Wars women. Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy, due out in October, will feature an “eclectic mix of female characters from the films, cartoons, novels, comics, and video games.”
One comic and a trade will be waiting in the comic shops on Wednesday, May 16. Poe Dameron #27 continues the story of the character’s offscreen adventures in The Force Awakens, this time with the just-past-The Last Jedi framing story focusing on Leia. See the preview under the cut. This week’s trade is Poe Dameron Volume 4, collecting #20-25 as well as Annual #1.
The latest set of Forces of Destiny episodes are live now on Youtube. The one with Rey and Finn begins with something very like a cut scene from The Force Awakens, but we’ve also got some offscreen The Last Jedi action with Chewbacca, Artoo and porgs. There’s also the long-awaited solo Padme adventure (set in The Phantom Menace era), and two post-Return of the Jedi Ewok adventures, including the return of the Gorax. Watch them all below.
Eight new episodes of Forces of Destiny went up on the Disney Youtube this afternoon. Watch them all in the playlist below!
With The Last Jedi home release imminent, several behind the scenes clips and featurettes have been released. There’s an interview with Andy Serkis on Snoke at Entertainment Weekly; Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher and The Slap at People; Daisy Ridley and Rian Johnson on Rey at E!.
The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson appeared on the Empire Podcast Spoiler Special to talk about the movie. It’s two hours long, so for those of us who prefer to read or are all podcasted-out for the day, Empire has helpfully written up some of the highlights. They include more about Luke and Kylo, broom boy, new Force powers, and the Rey/Kylo connection, but I’m sure there’s plenty more on the podcast.
