Read 50 pages of John Jackson Miller’s Kenobi

Kenobi preview artwork by Chris ScalfDel Rey has put up a big excerpt of Kenobi by John Jackson Miller on Scribd for fans to drool over, as one of their 50 Page Friday promotions. Kenobi comes out on August 27, so only a few more weeks to go before you read the Tatooine Western in its entirety.

Meanwhile, author Miller has been dropping trivia about Kenobi on Twitter daily under #KenobiCountdown. Rooqoo Depot has been collecting those released so far – week one & week two. Need more info on Kenobi? I interviewed John Jackson Miller at Comic-Con extensively about his upcoming novel.

Heard some things here and there about an Ewoks comic through the recent cons, but not enough to go much on… But here’s a Newsarama interview with writer Zack Giallongo. Officially… From the Del Rey folks, we have a Kenobi mini-excerpt, what other excerpts Razor’s Edge will contain, aand, on StarWars.com, Troy Denning writes about Crucible and his other Star Wars work. And bugs. Prefer not to think about any of that? Rich Handley and Abel G. Peña are exploring the Empire’s alien henchmen.

The blogside At Tosche Station, Nanci addresses the issues with the EU’s Jedi in recent years, but also takes the time to thank Del Rey for having so many women in the recent and upcoming lineup. And MTV has been doing a series on things that the new movies ‘need,’ most of which have been borderline ridiculous, but at least Jaina Solo and Lumiya made it.

SDCC: Interview with John Jackson Miller on Kenobi, Overdraft, and more

While at Comic-Con in San Diego, I got the chance to sit down with Star Wars author John Jackson Miller to discuss his upcoming novel Kenobi, his recently published sci-fi work Overdraft: The Orion Offensive, and his other upcoming projects, and a Kenobi giveaway from Del Rey at Comic-Con.

And below, Miller gets a surprise visit from Lisa Curtis (dressed as Miller’s character Zayne Carrick from Knights of the Old Republic comics), who presents him with an honorary membership in Rebel LegionSDCC-john-jackson-miller-rebel-legion

SDCC: Honor Among Thieves cover reveal and other tweets from the Del Rey Star Wars panel

Honor Among ThievesAt Del Rey’s Star Wars panel at SDCC today, they revealed the cover for for James S.A. Corey’s Honor Among Thieves, in addition to saying the book is in the same vein as the classic Brian Daley novels!

We’re not expecting big news, but anything could happen… Attending were authors Jeffrey Brown, Troy Denning, John Jackson Miller, and J. W. Rinzler, Del Rey editor Frank Parisi and Lucasfilm’s Jennifer Heddle and Leland Chee.

They also discuss Kenobi, The Making of Return of the Jedi, and Brown’s followup to Vader’s Little Princess… And nothing about Crucible, Sword of the Jedi, or the Kemp books. On hold, indeed.

EUbits: Corey’s Honor Among Thieves has a release date

ANH: Han and LeiaStreet date shuffle. James S. A. Corey’s Honor Among Thieves, the Han-centric second novel of the Empire and Rebellion series, has appeared in the Random House catalog with a release date of March 4. Per usual this is subject to change – we’ve already seen Martha Wells’ Leia book move up twice – so pencil it in.

Upcoming. There’s an excerpt from John Jackson Miller’s Kenobi on the Random House catalog. There’s also a new short story from him, ‘Incognito,’ in the latest issue of the Star Wars Insider, which should be hitting subscriber mailboxes soon if it hasn’t already.

Interviews. Crucible author Troy Denning talks to TheForce.net, Hollywood.com and Roqoo Depot. There are spoilers in these, so be cautious.

Reviews. James finds that the start of the new story arc in Brian Wood’s Star Wars #7 is full of tension, but light on action, and brings in a new artist, Ryan Kelly, who had previously worked with Wood elsewhere. (Plus a female Moff?!)

EUbits: Obi-Wan stares into your soul, not in a good way

I get kind of a Vigo the Carpathian vibe from it, so I can see why the more heroic final version won out. On the plus side, if they ever decide to do an Infinities ‘Dark Kenobi’ novel, the cover’s all done!

Short stories. Star Wars Insider #142 will feature a Christie Golden story set between Apocalpse and Crucible, ‘Good Hunting,’ Del Rey says. It stars Jaina Solo, Tenel Ka, and Allana Solo and will have new artwork from Joe Corroney. The issue will be on sale June 11.

Chats. The Star Wars Books Facebook chat had a pair of Dawn of the Jedi centric chats this week. Tuesday was comic writer John Ostrander (Roqoo Depot recap) and Wednesday was Into the Void scribe Tim Lebbon (TFN recap.) Lebbon also chatted with Fangirl Blog and TFN since we last checked in.

Reviews. James thinks that Darth Vader and the Ninth Assassin #2 ups the scope with a boom.

Cover for Miller’s Kenobi novel revealed!

Kenobi by JJMWe’ve already seen the blurb, but now io9 has the cover for John Jackson Miller’s Kenobi! It’s pretty standard, but nice and simple: Glad to see not every cover we’re getting this year is photoshop trickery!

First blurbs for Wells’ Leia novel and Kenobi; Release dates for the rest of Rebels

Luke, Leia and HanWe’ve got details this morning on the forthcoming Rebels series, most notably a brief blurb for Martha Wells’ still-untitled Leia novel:

The blogside. EUCantina debuts a new column, with a look at what they’d like to see in Kenobi (some Clone Wars spoilers.) Meanwhile, Bria’s Waru Express has pulled into Tosche Station with The Thrawn Trilogy.

Interviews. There’s a real surplus of them since we last checked in, with new writers (Martha Wells, Tim Siedell, Corinna Bechko & Gabriel Hardman) old writers (Kevin J. Anderson) and of course Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff, co-writer of The Last Jedi, which came out yesterday.

Speaking of The Last Jedi… The reviews! NJOE, EUC, Jedi News, Lightsaber Rattling, Roqoo Depot and Bry/Megan at Knights Archive are all fairly positive, while Bria at Tosche Station is unimpressed.

Comics. Preview Dark Horse’s Free Comic Book Day offering, and behold a Legacy variant cover. Congratulations to your publicist. Forbes, of all publications, profiles Dark Horse and their role in making licensed properties cool for comics. There’s some interesting stuff from a generalized viewpoint, but despite use of the term ‘expanded universe’ it’s more focused on video game tie-ins than things like Star Wars and Buffy.
