Star Wars with occasional sarcasm
Well, this is a random choice: Hallmark is offering a Momaw Nadon (ak Hammerhead) ornament as a limited-quanity offering.
Like the other new Keepsake Ornaments, this will be available in Hallmark stores beginning on July 14. Be sure to get there ASAP if you want Momaw, though: I hear these go fast.
This year’s Dreambook is up and running for us mere mortals, and with it your best look at this years selections – at least until Hallmark upgrades their website with a zoom feature or (more likely) they make their debut in stores this summer.
The Star Wars offerings: TIE Interceptor, Darth Maul, General Grievous, Han Solo on a tauntaun and two with a LEGO-theme, Stormtrooper and Vader.
And we wouldn’t dare forget the Darth Vader peekbuster, though we’ll try our darndest to keep him away from Santa Maul… I mean, seriously:

Whoever came up with that has no pets, clearly.

In a clip from The People vs. George Lucas, which comes to DVD next week, A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back producer Gary Kurtz opines on the prequel trilogy. He’s not a fan, but you probably knew that.
Expanded Universe. Suvudu is offering up 50 pages of Paul S. Kemp’s Riptide. The book will be out Tuesday, but you can read a review at Lightsaber Rattling.
Live-action. I’ve been rolling my eyes at the inevitable wave of ‘what about the live-action show!?!’ whine that inevitably accompany any news of other TV projects, so those folks can feel free to take it to io9, where Charlie Jane Anders’ tells you what she wants from the live-action Star Wars and Star Trek TV shows.
Merchandise. Hallmark’s Star Wars exclusive ornaments are fast sellers at conventions, shocking… absolutely no one. Next year’s regular ornaments will be TIE Interceptor, Han on Taun taun, General Grievous, Darth Maul, and a Lego Stormtrooper.

It’s been a while since we’ve had any releases at all, but this week thankfully bring a few! First off, on Tuesday, you pick up the Robot Chicken: Star Wars III DVD or Blu-Ray. Hilarity we haven’t seen since Robot Chicken: Star Wars II! io9 catches up with creator Matt Senreich on why there’s no Robot Chicken Star Trek and gets an exclusive deleted scene about Princess Leia.
If you’re a fantasy fan, there’s also A Dance with Dragons, the long-awaited fifth volume of George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. (You know, the one that began with Game if Thrones Which is now an HBO series? Yeah.) But more on that later.?
Meanwhile, there’s an actual comic in stores on Wednesday. A new storyline launches with Invasion: Revelations #1.
And come Saturday, it’s also time for the annual summertime wish-it-were-cooler tradition of the Hallmark Ornaments Premiere Weekend.
Next week? Choices of One! SDCC attendees and/or San Diego natives can enter a contest to win lunch with Tim Zahn and editor Shelly Shapiro while they’re in town for the con.
It’s May, and as always, Hallmark’s 2011 Dreambook is out. The ornaments were on display at Celebration, but for those of us who weren’t there or somehow completely missed the Hallmark booth, this is the first look.
Come July 16, you can pick up Jedi Master Yoda, Slave I, LEGO Darth Vader and the ever-controversial Showdown at the Cantina, featuring audio from the DVD edition. A fifth ornament, Bossk, will be available during the Keepsake Ornament Premiere.
Other familiar franchises you can deck your trees with this year include Star Trek, Harry Potter, Wizard of Oz, Pirates of the Caribbean, several superheroes and… Twilight.
All these ornaments will be available only in Hallmark stores.
The Hallmark Ornaments blog reports that Bossk and the Golden Snitch will be some of Hallmark’s limited quantity ornaments. They’ll be released for July 16 for the Keepsake Ornament Premiere. The pictures are a bit fuzzy, but you get the idea!

May is still showering, but in the land of Hallmark, spring means only one thing: The 2010 Dreambook is out. There are several Star Wars selections: One set of Yoda and Captain Rex (page 56) and several Empire Strikes Back-themed ornaments (pages 60-61) that you can check out below the cut. Luke in flight gear, a snowspeeder, and Vader chatting with holo Palpy are full size, while the mini set is Boba Fett and Han in Carbonite. TheForce.Net has word of some exclusive and limited edition Hallmark ornaments. (Scroll past the part where they meant to link to our original 2009 Hallmark post.) The first two are a Shock Trooper and Shadow Trooper two pack available only at Comic-Con. Greedo is the limited edition: You’ll have to head into your local store for the Keepsake Ornament Premiere Weekend on July 11th and 12th to nab him. Who shots first is entirely up to you.
It’s May, so of course the Dream Book is out, because nothing says spring like planning out your Christmas tree. This year’s Star Wars selections are include The Phantom Menace duel (above,) Han in Stormtrooper gear, Luke’s landspeeder, and a Clone Wars twofer of Anakin and Ahsoka.
Also of interest: Indiana Jones, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Ghostbusters and my personal grinchy favorite, the Wicked Witch of the West.
