This fanvid counts down five decades of fandom to Billy Joel’s ‘We Didn’t Start the Fire,’ and it’s surprisingly sweet. Don’t miss the creator’s notes. The password to watch is, naturally, fandom! (via)
Video: Tenth Doctor, the musical
I’ve just barely seen enough Doctor Who to name all the major players here, but this is a well-made and often flat-out hilarious fanvid. (via)
Video: Galactica Sabotage
This video makes me miss Kara Thrace (no, I will not watch 24) and also realize how much running there was in that show. Damn.
You can compare and contrast this with the Beastie Boys original side-by-side at Youtube Doubler. (via)
Video Smogesboard: Because Fridays!
So because I really am in an uncommonly cranky mood this week. (Yes, more than usual!) I dug back into our archives for some classic video clips. These aren’t the award-winning Red 5 and Chad Vader stuff that everyone remembers, just some funny bits that maybe ran rampant on the internets a few years back and forgotten. A couple more beneath the cut. Continue reading “Video Smogesboard: Because Fridays!”
Video: Six Merry Murderesses of the Clone Wars
The execution falls through a little (a bit too much faux lip-syncing) but the concept is pure awesome. I guarantee you’ll laugh at least once. (via)
Also, how come no one has filked this song yet? Chicago cries for Darksiders.
Video: Star Wars from bits and pieces
Video: William Shatner’s ‘Common People’
This may just be the slashiest Star Trek fanvid since ‘Closer’. (Well, maybe not. Still, it’s pretty slashy.)
That’s telekiniesis, Kyle!
Well, the ‘professional’ Coldplay vid got the attention of cool kid blog Sterogum, so I suppose it’s not too surprising that Gawker sib Idolator did a fanvid post. Star Wars is the only genre fandom featured – an uninspired but mildly amusing ‘Yoda’ vid.
I haven’t linked to many fanvids – honestly, it’s kind of a dry well unless you’re really into Evanescence. However, I did find a vid of Tenacious D’s ‘Wonderboy’ today that made me giggle.

Youtube: Is the party over?
The site took down nearly 30,000 files after complaints from a Japanese entertainment group.
Lucasfilm has taken a stand against the removal of fan videos from Youtube in the recent past, but in the end the choice is really up to Youtube – or Google, who’s now holding the purse strings. Pressure from entertainment organizations could easily ruin the fun for everyone, even when the copyright holder doesn’t object. Or have an official deal in place with Youtube/Google… which may be unlikely for LFL, as they already have an existing deal with Atom Films. (Although… Who knows? I don’t know what LFL’s contracts say.)
I suppose it was only a matter of time, damn my optimism. On the other hand, would Google really buy Youtube just to let it go the way of Napster…?
Cinemax loves lame fanvids
TFN reports that there’s a new promo for the Cinemax Saga going around scored to Coldplay. Coldplay? Not only a cliche, but last year’s cliche? No love, Cinemax. No love.
