Highlights of Mark Hamill’s Reddit AMA

He didn’t say much about Episode VII – sorry, no announcements! This was to promote the Make-A-Wish contest. Though of course he was asked about the Fisher report from the other day:

The only character I know for sure is returning is my friend R2-D2. He hasn’t stopped beeping about it.

And when pressed…

Haha. I’m not being coy, really. When I find something out, I’ll let everybody know. But nothing has been decided yet.

Roundup: Speaking sense on the Episode VII rumors

Rumors. Bryan Young and Bobby Roberts discuss last week’s big scriptwriting development on the latest Full of Sith. Seems like Bobby’s being hearing the same things as McWeeny and Faraci. They speak sense, so listen and calm yourselves.

Meanwhile, on the weekend Harrison Ford scoop, Blue Sky Disney revives the “Han Solo gonna die” thing from early on.

Flashback. In the midst of all this, HuffPo’s Mike Ryan looks back at Leigh Brackett and her Empire Strikes Back draft. All this has happened before… And Tor digs up some of Carrie Fisher’s thoughts on Leia from the infamous beach blanket bingo issue of Rolling Stone.

Video: First teaser for The Empire Strikes Back

Last Wednesday @StarWars posted the first-ever trailer for Star Wars; today they posted the first teaser for The Empire Strikes Back, mostly composed of Ralph McQuarrie’s concept art.

Is it a sign? Maybe, maybe not. Furious Fanboys points out there’s only one Wednesday (for Revenge/Return of the Jedi?) between us and October 30th, aka the one-year mark of the original Disney sale/sequel trilogy announcement.

Whatever the case ends up being: Don’t get cocky, kid. It’d be nice, but how many times have we been burned by our own assumptions? I’ve lost count.

Joss Whedon not a fan of Empire’s cliffhanger

The geek legend and Entertainment Weekly’s latest cover model says that The Empire Strikes Back “committed the cardinal sin of not actually ending.”

To which your EW interviewer blurted: “You think Empire had a bad ending?”

“Well, it’s not an ending,” Whedon explained about the 1980 film, which had a cliffhanger leading into the next entry of the series, Return of the Jedi. “It’s a Come Back Next Week, or in three years. And that upsets me. I go to movies expecting to have a whole experience. If I want a movie that doesn’t end I’ll go to a French movie. That’s a betrayal of trust to me. A movie has to be complete within itself, it can’t just build off the first one or play variations.”

So I guess we can trust that The Avengers sequel won’t have stop on a cliffhanger?

Laurence Kasdan’s first draft of The Empire Strikes Back

/Film has an exclusive look at Lawrence Kasdan’s original handwritten first draft of The Empire Strikes Back plus a page from the first printed draft.

We have also been given Lawrence’s original handwritten page for the Leia / Han “I love you” scene, which of course features different dialogue (Harrison Ford famously came up with the classic “I know” on set while they were shooting the scene.)
