Star Wars with occasional sarcasm
Paula and I (as well as a handful of other Jaders) are going to be at Dragon*Con through Labor Day weekend. It’s not a huge con for news like SDCC, so there may not be much blogging, but we will be tweeting as @rosiewook and @clubjade, connection permitting.
I even dug up some of those bracelets we had at Celebration…
This pretty much means that James is in charge. Are you afraid? Be afraid.

If you’re attending both or either of the big summer genre cons – San Diego Comic Con later this month, or Atlanta’s Dragon*Con in September – than you’re in luck today. SDCC has released their Thursday (July 21) schedule, and Dragon*Con’s Star Wars track has their own tentative listings up.
With no big Hall H Star Wars presentation planned, there are several events planned for Thursday: A Kinect Star Wars Panel for the gamers, Dark Horses’ fall publishing highlights, The Old Republic MMO, and a Clone Wars S4 preview with Dave Filoni and Pablo Hidalgo.
(I suspect we’ll see at least one dedicated Expanded Universe panel at some point – We do know that both Timothy Zahn and Del Rey’s Shelly Shapiro will be in attendance. However, the Clone Wars panel being on Thursday leads me to suspect there won’t an official Star Wars day this year. )
Among several panels focusing on female fandom is one sponsored by Her Universe, titled ‘What Women Want in Their Female Sci-Fi Heroes.’ Panelists include Ashley Eckstein, Dave Filoni, Betsy Mitchell and comic writer Gail Simone.
Bowing out the day are the ever-present Star Wars Fan Movie Awards. Mark Hamill will also be present, although for Thursday he’s sitting on a panel for Batman: Arkham City.
Meanwhile, the more fandom-oriented Star Wars track at Dragon*Con has a tentative schedule up. They’re not lacking in stars – Carrie Fisher, Gary Kurtz, Ashley Eckstein, and Temuera Morrison will be in attendance, as well as several authors.
Of special interest: A panel on Star Wars myth and philosophy with Timothy Zahn and Gary Kurtz, one dedicated to Heir to the Empire, and the ever-popular (and over-18 only) Adult Themes panel!
The economics of Star Wars. This infographic that’s been circling around the interwebs breaks down just how much money the Star Wars cash cow brings in. To which we say: Damn.
Interviews. Ashley Eckstein turns the tables on the fans! She talks to our pal Mandy from TheForce.net, plus costumer Vera Campbell and EU fan Erin Kelahan.
Listage. Totalfilm includes four Star Wars movies in their 40 baffling movie plot holes, and Darth Vader as one of their 30 most influential movie characters.
Fanmade. These super-adorable Star Wars amigurumi almost inspire me to learn how to crochet. Almost.

During a panel at Dragon*Con, Ashley Eckstein said to be on the lookout for a Mara Jade tee next spring or summer. I’m pretty sure that would be a first – at least for a licensee!

If the reports are anything to go on, there was no missing the many steampunk-themed costumes at Dragon*Con this weekend; No surprise that there were several Star Wars variations. Not surprisingly there were a lot of stormtroopers, bounty hunters and your other standards, but Cardinal Vader may be a new one. (Though one must admit it isn’t much of a logical leap.) Or we can just go straight for the crossdressers. Or the ever-popular Spaceballs. (Photo at right by Ryan James.)
And this adorable no-frills two-person AT-AT costume was a big hit with the #dragoncon tweeters. How about them boxes? But for sheer ‘ah, screw it’ daring, my vote goes to these guys.

We’re all getting a bit antsy on the CV front – Where? When? Ever? – but Steve Sansweet gave the lowdown to Examiner.com’s Bryan Young. Basically? We’re waiting on a organizational deal to be signed (in the past, that was GenCon) and that it could happen as late as six months out from the event. Eek!

That’s what Examiner.com’s Bryan Young is reporting from Steve Sansweet’s DragonCon panel. Sansweet also hinted that we may get some serious news soon!
Of course, the skeptic in me can’t fail to remind folks that this is far from the first time we’ve been given a ‘possible’ date. But Sansweet actually talking about it at a con seems like a good step.
