NYCC: Back covers for Apocalypse, Plagueis, plus additional Fate of the Jedi teases

Jaina Solo, Jag Fel, and Darth Maul are spotlighted in the back cover art for Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse and Darth Plagueis. The art was revealed at the Del Rey panel at New York Comic Con yesterday, and posted online today by editor Erich Schoeneweiss. The Darth Plagueis cover is by Torstein Nordstrand while the Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse cover is by Ian Keltie.

Suvudu has more details from panel at NYCC. In addition to the announcements of two new novels, Drew Karpyshyn’s untitled The Old Republic tie-in for fall 2012, and Timothy Zahn’s untitled Han Solo novel, there was also this teaser from Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse:

“Perhaps they feared Luke Skywalker just that much.

And that was a mistake.

Luke Skywalker was not the Sword of the Jedi. Jaina was, and now the Sith had trapped themselves inside a locked Temple with her.”

And for those waiting for a picture of Abeloth from Fate of the Jedi, Erich has mentioned that there will be a scene of her confronting “Luke, Ben, Vestara,” and the Sith in Allies in the Essential Guide to Warfare.

  1. Do Jag and Jaina look way too young to anyone else? They’re just about in their mid-30s now, and while there isn’t anything saying that these characters can’t age gracefully…as portrayed here they look like they should be starting college any day now.

  2. We’ve been here before. I recognize that tree.

Look, I realize that being ridiculously pedantic is coded into many strings of this fandom’s DNA, but it’s a book cover. It’s not mean to be a 100% accurate and faithful representation of whatever. It’s a quirky little bonus on the back of something that’s meant to sell books. Period.

  3. @ Dunc

Oh, I totally understand that it’s kind of a silly thing to make a big deal out of, and I really wasn’t trying to. It’s more an observation born of the fact that the cover artists on FotJ have, thus far, done a pretty good job of making everyone look their age.

  4. Are you serious? Jaina and Jag look perfect. Jaina def looks bad a*s. I mean let’s be serious, Luke is a very old man at this point and so is Han and Leia and they are still being portrayed on the covers as young which is pretty ridiculous. I think this back cover is just awesome. I think we as readers have to assume humans don’t age as rapidly in the star wars universe since they are so far ahead in areas of medicine and such.

  5. I’m sorry, but are YOU serious? Pouty lips, a sullen look, and a Jersey Shore haircut…your definition of bad-ass must be drastically different from mine. And the other characters are portrayed as too young? Han is just as craggy on the cover of Vortex as Harrison Ford is in real life. And I won’t argue that humans probably have a longer life-span in Star Wars, but you can’t seriously tell me that Jag and Jaina should be portrayed in the same way as Ben and Vestara when they’re twice those character’s ages.
