We’ve got details this morning on the forthcoming Rebels series, most notably a brief blurb for Martha Wells’ still-untitled Leia novel:
Nebula Award finalist Martha Wells makes her Star Wars debut with a brand-new classic Star Wars: Rebels adventure starring Princess Leia and her new friends, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, in the time just after the destruction of the Death Star in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope!
Princess Leia Organa is on a mission for the Rebel Alliance when Imperial forces attack. Now she, Han, and Luke are on their own, working with pirates and dealing with traitors as they race the clock to protect the secrecy of a crucial meeting of Rebel conspirators!
The listing also gives us (presumably tentative) dates for the other books in the series: March 2014 for James S. A. Corey’s Han book and January 2015 for Kevin Hearn’s Luke novel. (via)
John Jackson Miller’s Kenobi also gets a blurb:
In this original novel set between the events of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV A New Hope, Obi-Wan Kenobi comes to the aid of the residents of Tatooine during his exile. But he struggles with his new mission when he realizes that protecting Luke Skywalker-the last hope of the galaxy-means setting aside his compassion and his Jedi warrior training, for the future of the galaxy lies not with Obi-Wan Kenobi, but with a mystical desert recluse known only by the name of Crazy Old Ben.
There’s also a listing for William Shakespeare’s Star Wars (with the cover and a few interior pages.)
The blurb for the Leia novel makes it sound like a Big Three novel. It could be misleading of course. But I was expecting and want to read a novel focused on Leia, not a novel that has Leia with Luke and Han coming along.
Forgive me if I’m wrong, but haven’t we heard that Kenobi blurb (or parts of it) before? The bit about becoming crazy old Ben certainly sounds familiar.
In any case, it doesn’t really tell us anything we didn’t already know.
(Not that I’m knocking CJ – just bit underwhelmed by it.)
I did check the tag and there’s certainly not a blurb there… But it’s pretty vague, that’s not surprising.
Or it could have come out before, and I just missed it then. It’s possible!
I absolutely must get that Shakespeare book!
-I have one Lord and Master; ’tis myself, and only from that one take I commands.
-A wonder great that thou art still alive.
Please let there be a teacher who will put this on stage! :-D
Found it. It was this post from Miller’s blog, back when Kenobi was first announced:

“He must stop being Obi-Wan – and learn to live as Ben.”
Funnily enough, we actually learn more about the book there; JJM describes it as “part epic western, part high-stakes drama, part romance”.
Part western: Awesome. In my opinion, the western element should have been much more present in the prequels anyway, so go JJM.
Part drama: Sure, let’s go.
Part romance: That might be interesting. Alec Guinness was a ladies’ man (when he didn’t play a lady himself that is ;-)), Ewan surely is one, so Old Ben living on Tatooine, letting go of the stupid prequel Jedi rules about love, starting a little romance… Yeah, that might be fun. Okay, in the end she’ll probably pull a Satine or he’ll pull an “Actually, Jedi are not really aloud to love” stunt but still…
Can’t wait. :-)
Did I honestly write “aloud” just then? Okay, the Grevious thing was nothing compared to that. Shame. On. Me.
(Very loud shame, apparently. :-/ )
*goesintoadarkcornerandcries* ;-)
I was kind of hoping that the Leia novel would be set before ANH…kind of like the Han Solo Trilogy. A little bummed about that.
I’d like one of those too, but they’ve said from the start that the Rebels books were going to be after ANH.
