Confirmed: Sam Witwer to voice Clone Wars‘ Maul

As rumored, Sam Witwer is indeed voicing Maul for The Clone Wars, confirms MTV’s Laurel Woods. She also has a behind-the-scenes video featuring animation clips and Witwer with Clancy Brown (Savage Opress) in the studio. This is Witwer’s second Clone Wars character, the first being the Son from last season’s Mortis arc.

Witwer is actually the second ‘voice’ of Maul – although Ray Park played the character in The Phantom Menace, it was British actor Peter Serafinowicz who provided his voice.

Witwer’s Maul will make his debut in the March 9th episode.

Annies for John Williams and Rango, but The Clone Wars goes home empty-handed

There was no love – or at least, no awards – for The Clone Wars at Saturday’s Annie Awards. However, ILM’s Rango did take home several prizes, including best animated feature, while composer John Williams won for his Tintin score. ILM’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon took best animated effects.

The Clone Wars had 5 total nominations, including Best General Audience Animated TV Production (The Simpsons won) and editing. The individual achievement categories singled out Joel Aron for animated effects and voice actors Dee Bradley Baker and Nika Futterman.

The Clone Wars distinguishes ‘Friends and Enemies’ tonight

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s undercover mission continues on this week’s new episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars – ‘Friends and Enemies’. While Obi-Wan (in his guise as his own killer), Cad Bane and Moralo Eval (there’s another transparent name in this galaxy) are on the run after their escape from prison, they decide to solve their relationship issues and go shopping. Meanwhile, Anakin and Ahsoka, still not in on Kenobi’s secret mission, have their own objectives: track down the jailbreaking trio.

Back on earth, director Dave Filoni announced that he is auctioning off a rare Celebration V poster of his art, depicting Boba Fett and Cad Bane, and signed by himself, George Lucas, Daniel Logan and Corey Burton. Proceeds to benefit the AIDS and Breast Cancer Emergency Fund of San Francisco.

Combining earth and the galaxy far, far away… there seems to be a rather familiar chapeau in Pablo Hidalgo’s millinery emporium in this second clip from ‘Friends and Enemies’:
