The pair originate in the 2001 Tag & Bink Are Dead comics which are, technically, part of Legends. (Though even there the comics were considered “Infinities,” which today makes them doubly non-canon.) How much makes it to screen (and canon..?) Well, probably not much. But that’s fitting.
Technicalities aside, the original Tag and Bink comics (by Star Wars Tales MVP Kevin Rubio) are among the highlights of Dark Horse’s run with the license. They’re totally worth a read, require nothing at all in knowledge of the vast Expanded Universe, and are really, really funny. I don’t think there’s been any physical reprints since the comics license changeover to Marvel, but the collection is available on Comixology.
Honestly, this is exactly the kind of EU appearance I expect in this film: Brief and irreverent.
New dialogue has been heard in both a TV spot (which also features a handful of new shots, most notably Finn during his battle with Phasma) and via some… talking candy? Per usual, these lines may not pan out in the film so don’t get too attached (remember “immune to the light?”)
I’m convinced there are (at least) two big misdirects in The Last Jedi trailer. But that’s not all! Stills, GIFs and the obligatory gallery under the cut.
There’s also a new Trailer Council podcast, featuring Amanda Ward (Making Star Wars, Rebel Grrrl,) Chris Taylor (Mashable, How Star Wars Conquered the Universe,) Shana O’Neil (SYFY Fangrrls,) Kyle Newman (Fanboys,) Steele Saunders (Steele Wars,) Anthony Breznican (Entertainment Weekly,) and Holly Frey (Full of Sith.)
The special New York Comic Con panel about the Star Wars 40th Anniversary anthology features several of the book’s 40-something writers, including moderator Pablo Hidalgo, Claudia Gray, Delilah Dawson, Jason Fry, E.K. Johnston and more.
It’s official: Lucasfilm has announced that the next trailer for The Last Jedi is coming tomorrow during halftime of the Monday Night Football game on ESPN. The game begins at 8:15 p.m. EDT (5:15 p.m. PDT) which means halftime will likely be around 10. Tickets will go on sale afterwards.
Looks like the Han Solo film will finally take us to Corellia. “Those #Corellian nights get a little chilly,” director Ron Howard tweets. “Screenwriter @JonKasdan and I try to keep warm.” We’ve seen the burning droid a few times in Howard’s shares from the set, but the confirmation that we’ll finally see Han’s home planet on screen? Priceless.
