Jedi Bibliothek has the details on Marvel’s The Last Jedi adaptation. The six-part comic is will be written by Rogue One co-scriptwriter Gary Whitta and illustrated by Michael Walsh. The main cover is by Mike Del Mundo, and there’s also a Joe Quesada variant.
IMAX and Collider held a live Q&A with The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson last night. They livestreamed it, and while I’ve been hoping for better video, you can still watch it at Facebook. Johnson answered questions about the throne room scene and prequel parallels, among other things.
Andy Serkis is making the rounds for Black Panther, but naturally /Film asked him about Snoke, and his reaction to the character’s death. Serkis plays it a little coy:
Jason Ward over at Making Star Wars weighs in on the Solo trailer and the Super Bowl. His source says that “a shorter version of the teaser will hit on the Super Bowl” on Sunday, with a longer one to follow next week. Seems likely enough, but as always, we’ll see!
It’s been widely speculated in fan circles that Lucasfilm may launch the marketing campaign for Solo: A Star Wars Story with a Super Bowl spot, but now we have The Hollywood Reporter weighing in. They don’t seem to have any special sources and are going with “widely expected,” though, so they might just be working off the same logic the rest of us are.
The Last Jedi has now made more than $1.3 billion, making it the all-time 9th-biggest global grosser. It’s unlikely to go any higher as we start heading into blockbuster season, with Fifty Shades Freed and Black Panther on the horizon. Scott Mendelson at Forbes writes why it’s still (duh) a big win for Disney.
→ Domhnall Gleeson was at Sundance for National Lampoon biopic A Futile and Stupid Gesture, and we’ve gotten several interviews from him that touch on the sequel trilogy. In an IMDB interview, he revealed the origins of Hux’s blaster scene.With The Huffington Post, he talks about Hux and the aim of the character, while on the Happy Sad Confused podcast he touches on The Last Jedi‘s “broken phone call,” surviving the film, and his relationship with Kylo Ren. Also recently unearthed in a Japanese guide to The Force Awakens is a behind the scenes photo of Gleeson (with J.J. Abrams) filming the snow rescue scene that was cut.
Her Universe and Disney are expanding their merchandise partnership, the companies announced today. The new deal includes an athleisure line for kids and tweens called “Our Universe.” It debuts with Black Panther and Disney Princess products, with Star Wars additions coming soon. The products will be avaliable exclusively through shopDisney.com and at Disney Store locations.
“You wouldn’t believe some of the Legends characters that will be cropping up in various media in the coming months,” the Lucasfilm story group’s Leland Chee said in response to a Twitter query. “Hey, if Tag & Bink can show up, ANYthing is possible.”
