Someone on the IMDB boards claims to know the plot and title for the fourth Indiana Jones movie. Probably total bunk, but it is in the ballpark of plausibility.
Fangirls will love it!
Sean Burns of Philadelphia Weekly has this to say about James Franco’s performance in Tristan & Isolde:
This young actor first emerged to great acclaim in Mark Rydell’s 2001 television James Dean biopic, but his Tristan performance is riddled with so many Anakinisms you’ll think he’s auditioning for The Hayden Christensen Story.
The rest of the review is also quite delightfully snarky.
Can the Man of Steel Steal Hearts?
In an attempt to try to keep enticing viewers to the latest installment of the Superman curse, er, movie, Warner Brothers dropped off some new pictures to ComingSoon.net.
Is the new Superman causing any hearts to start fluttering, yet?
One has to wonder if they’re even thinking this will make a splash in the US, since the official site is only for international audiences. (There is a US site called Blue Tights, but it doesn’t appear to be official. Maybe they’re trying to do a OneRing.net type of thing?)
George Lucas still richer than you
Revenge of the Sith was last year’s top earner, making $380.3 million. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, War of the Worlds, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Wedding Crashers (one of these things is not like others) round out the top 5. Thus, it’s not too suprising that several Episode 3 stars are among the top draws – Christoper Lee, Ewan McGregor, and Samuel Jackson. Liam Neeson is there too – if you can’t be a Jedi, I guess voicing Jesus in lion form and smacking around Batman are good substitutes.
Tom Hanks to help revive Trek?
That’s the rumor, anyway: Paramount is considering a script by Erik Jendresen, who worked on the mini-series Band of Brothers. If there’s even a glimmer of truth to this, Hanks would be the biggest name to join the franchise since Patrick Stewart.
Browncoats to close
Browncoats will close on January 6, 2006.
An email to members reads:
Browncoats,
We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty!
Serenity was the #1 DVD upon its release! This was a huge success that would not have happened without the support and dedication of The Browncoats. On behalf or Universal, I would like to thank you all for everything you have done to promote Serenity.
It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that on January 6, 2006, The Browncoats will shut down. We have had some wonderful times over these 19 months: met people from around the world, had interesting discussions about Serenity and every topic under the sun on the message boards, had lots of laughs (
Vote for your favorites
Film mag Empire has opened up their year-end awards to the voting public. Not that we’re (STAR WARS) going to tell you (EWAN) who to vote (SERENITY) for (JOSS) or anything. It’s totally up to you. And the legions of hardcore fans who are going to flood this thing. (Just sayin’!)
Pablo Strikes Again!
Is Serenity over?
Entertainment Weekly seems to think so, but Joss Whedon says they have context issues. Meanwhile, in an interview with Coming Soon, he says “It was hard to make and I’m very tired. I need some sleep, and then we’ll see if people are interested in more, than I have more say.”
So there you go. A nice solid maybe. Someone go tell the Browncoats they can inhale again.
Film News: Not this crude matter
Guide to King Kong for those with small bladders. Speaking of the big guy, he’s not doing as well as expected, taking in only $66.2 million since Wednesday. I’d say that’s pretty good for a three-hour giant ape movie where everyone already knows the ending.
You couldn’t pay me to see Scary Movie 4, but the posters, which parody War of the Worlds, Saw and The Grudge, are certainly worth a giggle. (Via The Movie Blog.)
Theatre owners want to block cell phones. Yeah, that’ll get folks back in theaters, I’m sure.
