Movie News: Fanboys, Dark Crystal

Fanboys finds a cast – maybe. Folks reportedly in talks are Kristen Bell of Veronica Mars, Jay Baruchel of Undeclared and Just Legal, Chris Marquette of Joan of Arcadia and Sam Huntington, Jimmy Olsen in Superman Returns. Just add in a Kevin Smith or Whedon alumni and it’ll be the geekiest cast ever.

Dark Crystal sequal moves forward, with Genndy Tartakovsky (Clone Wars) in the director’s seat.

Still no Bond girl – or villian. Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Wedding Crashers) is the latest name bouncing through rumorville.

First pictures from Spider-Man 3; all Kirsten Dunst, all the time. Also, looks like there may be more familiar comic folks showing up in the film. Are we sure Brett Ratner isn’t involved?

Trailer for Scary Movie 4. You know someone wants to see it.

Bunch of savages in this town

Why does Kevin Smith want to release Clerks 2 unrated? Language, of course:

“I’ve never been a nudity dude,” Smith insisted. “We did nudity once, in ‘Mallrats,’ and it was just such an uncomfortable thing to shoot. Anybody can get somebody to take their clothes off. ‘Clerks’ was a movie that the MPAA gave an NC-17 for language and content alone. This movie ups the ante by a hundred-fold, and there’s just no way it gets an R.”

George to Harrison: Simmer down!

George Lucas responds to Harrison Ford’s Indy 4 comments. (Which everyone is calling an ‘ultimatium’. Sorry, but “If it doesn’t happen in the next two years we should all forget it” is not an ultimatium. Unless he was holding a weapon at the time.) According to MTV, Lucas says:

“We just keep working on it,” shrugged series writer/producer George Lucas. “You know, we just write and write and write and write and write. But we are getting closer, and hopefully this year we will have a start date and we will have a script that we all love and hopefully it will come out next year.” Lucas added that Jeff Nathanson (“Catch Me if You Can”) is the newest addition to a pile of screenwriters bigger than the Cairo swordsman’s weapon of choice.

So, you know, definitely maybe.

Movie News: Everything comics

With hot stuff Eric Bana dropped out of any possible Hulk sequels, and Marvel desperate to cash in, rumor mill says David Duchovny may step in to play Bruce Banner. Mulder? What have you wrought?

Meanwhile, in a more sucessful corner of the Marvel movieverse, Bryce Dallas Howard may play Peter Parker’s next love interest, Gwen Stacy, putting giant continuty loops in the heads of anyone who reads Spiderman comics. Word is that Howard will dye.

And of course, Superman is over budget. This better be the most super movie ever.

And because it’s just not a superhero post without the X-Men, here’s some musings on Professor X and Magneto from John at the Movie Blog.
