The next big con is here

San Diego Comic Con started tonight, at least for those with media passes. The TOSblog has already grabbed some pics, and we know that Bonnie is there, so no doubt posts are forthcoming. (We also may have some CJers on the scene willing to weigh in.)

As for other LFL ventures, there’s a lot of online hype over this one little little pyramid.

Rebelscum is high on the collecting scene, snapping pics of all the new merchandise, including Sideshow’s Snow Bunny Padme (Remember her?.) Still meh.

SDCC: Another reason to check your mail

E-mail, that is. The Homing Beacon newsletter went out this afternoon with the details on Star Wars events at at Comic Con.

In brief…

  • Friday is Star Wars Day, with panels from LucasBooks/Del Rey, LucasArts, Hasbro, Robot Chicken, trivia with the San Diego Star Wars Society and of course, Steve Sansweet. (5pm, Hall H; check schedule for other panels.)
  • An Indy 4 segment is expected at the Paramount/DreamWorks/Nickelodeon presentation on Thurday in Hall H at 1:30.
  • So far, Official Pix has Dave Prowse and Matthew Wood signing.
  • Fanboys panel Thursday in at 6pm in Room 6 CDEF, also an TBA autograph session with the cast.
  • Some of the Vader Project helmets will be present.

I’ve also received word that LucasArts is setting up in Booth #2913 and will have LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Thrillville: Off The Rails, Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron and Star Wars Galaxies available to play. Their panel, at 12:30pm in Room 1AB, will feature a panel of producers and a discussion of story and character in The Force Unleashed.

SDCC: Six days to go!

Fox pulled out of SDCC the other day, claiming all six films they planned to present weren’t ready. (Among them: Jumper, starring Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson.) Now, according the L.A. Times, they’re reconsidering.

CE: Media behaving badly

I’m not sure if it’s a coincidence or what, but all the Celebration Europe press I ran across today is so… sensationalist.

First, Daily Mail reporter Tanya Gold doesn’t even get a paragraph into her CE experience before breaking out the requisite ‘Get a life’ comment. Keeping reading – it’s full of such classy gems. Although I do like the description of Steve Sansweet as George Lucas’ “representative on Earth.”

As for the real stars of the CE experience, we have comments from Anthony Daniels, admonishing Sir Alec Guinness and a trifecta of Mark Hamill comments that the blurb artists are trying their damnedest on: ‘wanting’ to be Vader; the Luke warehouse; and the one with the legs, Portman’s a babe.
