Looking into the Dollhouse

Well, it looks like there is some seriously leaking going on with the production of Joss Whedon’s new show Dollhouse.

E!’s Watch with Kristin got to look at the pilot and gives a high-level view of the premise and the characters.  (Very smartly comparing them to the Scoobies.)  If you don’t want to know anything at all, it’s spoilery.  If you want to know the basics?  Very interesting reading.

Do Good of the Week – More auction fun!

This week’s geeky auction fun is brought to you by the Waterkeeper Alliance. Apparently there are a lot of celebrities who are supporting it, so dig on into it to see who’s offering. (Some mighty cool vacation opportunities, as well!)

Of geek interest:

How did they score so much geek cred? One of the organization’s biggest supporters is Richard Dean Anderson. He MacGyvered them into it, I’m sure.

Thanks to James and The Browncoats for the heads up!

Gate Geek – We have cast!

I don’t see this as much with other shows, but Stargate fans seem to get really attached to the guest stars who appear on the show; especially those who are playing “good guys.”

So imagine the happiness when producer Joe Mallozzi announced Season 5’s guest star cast.

Why, yes.  That is yet another Star Trek cast member making the move over to Stargate.  I bet Trek’s casting directors are pleased with themselves.

And yes, that does represent an all woman team!  Let’s hear it for the ladies!

In other fun cast news, David Hewlett reports that his much-beloved sister Kate starts shooting yet another episode this week as Rodney‘s much-beloved sister Jeannie.

Do-Good of the Week: Vancouver Sci-Fi Stuff up for Auction!

Actress Babs Chula is apparently much beloved by the Vancouver acting community.  (That is quite the resume on IMDB!)  Because when she was diagnosed with cancer, a fundraiser was set up to help with her expenses.  And it seems like many of the items are coming in from the sci-fi shows who have called Vancouver home.

  • Items are being offered up from the X-Files; including dinner with creator Chris Carter or dinner with David Duchovny and Nicholas Lea.
  • Dinner with Tahmoh Pheniket from Battlestar Galactica,
  • Dinner with director Peter DeLuise from Stargate SG1 and Paul McGillion and Jewel Staite from Stargate Atlantis.

A good cause and some stuff you don’t see terribly often!  Check it on out and see if you can help.

Gate Geek – Continuing on to Continuum

So GateWorld got to go to the preview of Stargate:  Continuum, last week.  They post their (I’m sure spoilery, but I’m not looking) comments and teases on their site.

In other sneak preview news, WarCry Network got to look at the Stargate Worlds MMO and they seem to like it!  It has been getting a bit of buzz outside of Stargate circles, so something must be brewing.

Back to the Stargate movies, that amazing soundtrack for The Ark of Truth is being released by the composer, himself.  (via)

How about that shindig?

Word has it that Firefly will soon be heading to BlueRay.  And it’s a special edition!

Jewel Staite told a con audience in Australia that she has been asked to come do commentary for the special edition.  And TV Guide confirmed it with Fox Home.  However, it’s apparently in the very early stages, so don’t go gettin’ all excited.  ‘Like to hurt somethin’.

Give your blood to save Moonlight?

As usual, the genre show fates hang in the balance as we move towards the end of a very strange season.

Since Moonlight is one of those, the fans have come up with a unique attention-getter that, for once, doesn’t deluge studios with condiments they can’t use.  Yes, the fans want you to donate blood towards a goal that will get CBS’ attention.

Series star Alex O’Loughlin is thrilled by the idea and hopes to add to the fun by becoming a Red Cross spokesperson, himself.

Gate Geek – New Gates, New Worlds

Our first inkling of the premise behind the upcoming third Stargate series!  Brad Wright told GateWorld that it’s set on an Ancient’s ship that was sent out to seed new gates.  And yes, it uses the ninth chevron.

In the meantime, they’re going back to rework the SG1 Pilot.  Not one of SG1’s better offerings, the hope is to not only improve the special effects, but to fix some of the story and scoring issues.  (Did they learn nothing from the Special Editions?)

Something that probably won’t have issues is Continuum.  The second straight-to-DVD movie (which had its cast and crew viewing this weekend) will be released July 29th!

Out of the Battlestar, into the Dollhouse

Well, we don’t have to worry about totally losing the pretty factor when Battlestar Galactica ends its run. Tahmoh Penikett (the very pretty Helo) has been cast in Joss Whedon’s new show Dollhouse.

Speaking of BSG, Edward James Olmos (Adama) wouldn’t mind terribly much if everyone dies off in the end. Not that we really know, at this point. The writers have regrouped in the wake of the strike.

Don’t forget that SciFi is airing two season kick-off specials, tonight. (Friday.)
