“Innocents” Abroad
Here’s what the Interwebs are saying about last Friday’s The Clone Wars episode, “Innocents of Ryloth”:
- SWCloneWarsReviews discusses the need of showcasing what the war is about: “Episodes like ‘Innocents of Ryloth’, therefore, become a key to the series’ potency as effective storytelling.”
- IGN liked the characterization of the clones: “very impressive job of … taking hordes of characters that look alike and letting them stand out as individuals.”
- IO9 calls it “one of the more satisfying” with “For once, the script lived up to the potential of the show”.
- BigShinyRobot wishes the episode, a Guns of Navarone homage, was a bit longer.
- Cameron at DenOfGeek calls the episode “a classic, demonstrating that characters and emotions can strike a chord just as devastating as a spaceship or lightsabre battle.”
It appears that the general buzz is quite positive on bringing some heart to the war – is this the Age of “Innocents”? Could it be just coincidental that Obi-wan is the only Jedi main character in this episode? And don’t miss the weekly summary and review on ClubJade, written by Joss Whedon, or at least a Jawa who has once read a comic written by Joss Whedon.
The Clone Wars: ‘Innocents of Ryloth’ reviewed
‘Innocents of Ryloth’ is the middle chapter of a three-part story involving the liberation of the Twi’lek homeworld of Ryloth during the Clone Wars. So does this make it The Empire Strikes Back of the trilogy – only if by Empire, we mean Republic. Continue reading “The Clone Wars: ‘Innocents of Ryloth’ reviewed”

The Clone Wars review: ‘Blue Shadow Virus’ and ‘Mystery of a Thousand Moons’
“Fear is a disease. Hope is its only cure.”
Hope may be a good cure for fear, but keep your hazmat suit on – there’s an outbreak on the horizon. This pair of episodes form a single story arc over an attempt to release a lethal virus across the galaxy being contained on Naboo, which means – yup, Jar Jar gets more heroics. Coldplay, Beck, and Johnny Cash on a Star Wars EU soundtrack?
As first reported a few days back, Del Rey was promoting Joe Schreiber’s upcoming Deathtroopers novel with a free soundtrack CD at the New York Comic Con. Now, Schreiber goes over the soundtrack playlist on his blog. With some of the aforementioned musicians, the soundtrack also included some Pixies, Allison Krauss, Tool, and Rob Zombie — and starts off with the 20th Century Fox fanfare. Not since “Christmas in the Stars” have some lucky fans gotten a Star Wars album so eclectic.
