Star Wars with occasional sarcasm
‘Shadow Warrior’ is a fantastic episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars – while only a half hour long, the story covered so much ground, and really captured the feel of Star Wars. It makes me wish that this storyline was spread out across two episodes, with the first half of the story (the Gungan plot) separate from the capture of Anakin and the prisoner exchange.
Syfy’s Warehouse 13 ends season three with a two-hour finale tonight – watch a sneak peek above! Actor Eddie McClintock gives some hints about the finale and talks about some of the different recurring guest stars from this season, Kate Mulgrew, Anthony Michael Hall and Jaime Murray. The main heroes and villains of the prequels collide in ‘Shadow Warrior’, this week’s episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. As shown in the clip, Anakin and Dooku square off, meanwhile Padme discovers that Grievous and his droid armies are going to invade Theed, but the Gungans are also marching on the capital of Naboo. As Bryan Young points out, this episode is likely a homage to the 1980 Akira Kurosawa film Kagemusha (The Shadow Warrior), whose international edition lists George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola as executive producers. This is not the first time The Clone Wars has been inspired by Kurosawa: season two’s episode ‘Bounty Hunters’ was a tribute to the classic Seven Samurai.
With the first story arc done, it’s time to see what the reviewers are saying about the start of Star Wars: The Clone Wars season four. Did people think that this story arc jumped the shark? Indeed not – It looks like most reviewers were swimmingly pleased with the Mon Cala war storyline.

“It’s an attack!” Captain Ackbar shouts when the Quarren and their Separatist allies assault the Mon Cal city. Not quite a trap, but Ackbar steals the show in the first half of the season four opener of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. ‘Water War’ sets the stage for this multi-part story with lots of exciting action as things deteriorate rapidly for Prince Lee-Char, the Jedi and Mon Calamari people.

At the premiere, Wired got Dave Filoni to talk about animating underwater and reflect on Ackbar’s popularity, and hints that we might see more classic trilogy characters in this season.
Meanwhile, Katie Lucas tweeted how many episodes she wrote this season: “I have four episodes this season that will be airing later in the season! I’m so excited for you guys to see them!”

Less than twenty-four hours to go before Friday’s premiere episodes of Season Four of The Clone Wars! As we count down for two-parter, ‘Water War’ and ‘Gungan Attack’, here’s a look at Newsarama’s coverage of the star-studded premiere event , held at the Long Beach Aquarium. Meanwhile, Big Shiny Robot scored an video interview with Dee Bradley Baker at the opening, as well as brings out some interviews taken at Comic-Con, with director Dave Filoni, and CG Supervisor Joel Aron.

While at the 30th anniversary screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Steven Spielberg talked a bit about the early development of Indiana Jones by him and his friend George Lucas, their friendship, about the restoration of Raiders of the Lost Ark (for eventual Blu-ray release), and being hopeful for Indy V.
When Harrison Ford came out, he said he’s up for a fifth time as Indiana Jones, and thinks the key is expanding the audience’s understanding of the character. Also, Harrison Ford in Jurassic Park? Spielberg offered the role of Alan Grant to him.
Rounding out their coverage, the LA Times also did a retrospective on the Raiders of the Lost Ark toys from the 1980s.
EDIT: While Spielberg commented that the newly cleaned up version of Raiders of the Lost Ark that they were screening was going to be eventually used for the Blu-ray and he noted that that Blu-ray release would not have any changes from the 1981 theatrical release, Spielberg later commented that he regrets making changes to E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial for its 20th Anniversary DVD, saying, “I realized what I had done was I had robbed people who loved E.T. of their memories of E.T.”
He went on to say that the E.T. Blu-ray would be the original 1982 theatrical version, and not contain the unpopular 2002 revisions, such as digitally replacing police guns with walkie-talkies.
Season four of The Clone Wars begins this Friday night on Cartoon Network with an hour-long two-episode special: ‘Water War’ and ‘Gungan Attack’. The Mon Calamari homeworld is engaged in a civil war that becomes part of the larger wars with the involvement of a new Separatist villain, Riff Tamsen, siding with the Quarren. As with many of the episodes from the latter half of season three, these episodes will be forming a larger story arc, with the third course of Mon Calamari being served up on September 23. Amy Ratcliffe has a spoilery review from the premiere showing. With this season’s theme of “Battle Lines,” you can certainly see from this story arc that season four is bringing more of the wars to Star Wars.
As we count down the final days to season four, I decided to get ready by re-watching the finale from season three: ‘Padawan Lost’ and ‘Wookiee Hunt’ and was amazed again at how fantastic the show is. Here are a few of my favorite things from season three:
