Tweeting with John Jackson Miller on Knights of the Old Republic: War

With Knights of the Old Republic returning to comics with War starting tomorrow, Dark Horse had writer John Jackson Miller take questions via Twitter today. We sum it up so you don’t have to try to read answers before the questions on Miller’s twitter (catch it all on #KOTORWarChat). War was intentionally made as a good starting point into the era, so while there’s Easter egg type connections to the previous fifty-issue run of the KOTOR comics, reading the earlier works is not necessary to understanding the story. And it’s Sith-free!

Star Trek: The Next Generation being remastered for Blu-Ray

Entertainment Weekly got the exclusive side-by-side comparison video on the upcoming transfer of Star Trek: The Next Generation to high definition. Remember how poor the show, especially the first season, appears now in re-runs? Well, the show is being cleaned up for a Blu-ray release later this year, for the 25th anniversary of the show, with the original film being recut and remastered for HD – no more videotape quality.

Before the full show’s Blu-ray release, CBS Home Video will be teasing fans with the early Blu-ray release pack , The Next Generation – The Next Level, which will contain three favorite episodes: the show’s two-hour premiere, ‘Encounter at Farpoint’, season three’s ‘Sins of the Father’ and season five’s ‘The Inner Light’. The Clone Wars is back with ‘Escape from Kadavo’

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is back with a new episode to start off the year, finishing up the Slaves of Zygerria arc with ‘Escape from Kadavo’. Anakin Skywalker tries to convince the Queen of Zygerria that she, too, serves a master – Count Dooku, while an enslaved Obi-wan Kenobi has to behave in order to protect the Togruta slaves on Kadavo. Best of Star Wars in 2011: Comics

2011 brought us a plethora of Star Wars comics from Dark Horse. With 44 individual comic issues and 17 books (digests, trade paperbacks and omnibus collections), there was a lot for everyone, with nearly every era getting some stories. As part of Dark Horse’s 25th anniversary, the Star Wars lineup added some new titles (Jedi – The Dark Side, Darth Vader and the Lost Command, and Agent of the Empire), brought back some old favorites (Crimson Empire III) and finished up the Cade Skywalker storyline with the end of Legacy: War. Darth Vader and the Lost Command was Dark Horse’s bestselling Star Wars title of the year, which earned it a special hard-cover trade edition. While Haden Blackman’s tale of Vader on a mission filled with betrayal is a great story, I think there was another story that topped it to be the year’s best.

Lucas still hunting for Indy V MacGuffin

New York Magazine’s Vulture blog caught up with George Lucas at The Adventures of Tintin premiere and learned that despite earlier comments by Steven Spielberg about the movie concept being done, Lucas is still seeking a key plot point for a fifth Indiana Jones film. Lucas said: “but I really haven’t found the MacGuffin yet. I mean, I know what it’s about, but I just have to find a MacGuffin that fits into the arena we’re working in.”

Meanwhile, Spielberg reported to MTV that making a fifth Indy film wouldn’t be made just to prove something to the audience (when compared to general fan reaction that felt that the most recent film, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was a letdown compared to other Indy outings).

Syfy brings a triple dose of Christmas cheer with Eureka, Warehouse 13, and Haven?!

Eureka and Warehouse 13 are returning for another round of holiday warm fuzzy episodes tonight on Syfy, and Haven is joining them with its first Christmas episode as well. Eureka ends up animated (in multiple styles from stopmotion to anime, no less) with snowman ninjas, polar bears, and more. Warehouse 13 gives agent Pete Lattimer the It’s a Wonderful Life treatment (Don’t worry about how this fits with the season 3 ending!). And Christmas comes to the weird town of Haven — in the middle of summer.

And being Syfy, there’s also some holiday specials from their other staples: Ghost Hunters on December 7, and an original movie on December 10: Snowmageddon. Over Christmas, the channel will be running marathons of several shows, including Merlin and Being Human, while they will ring in 2012 with their annual marathon of Twilight Zone.
