The Los Angeles Times took a look at the glut of Hollywood genre remakes/revivals this weekend, and Star Wars gets a mention due to The Clone Wars. Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica – among others – also share the spotlight.
This post is brought to you by the letter T
It’s Monday and I got nothing. Granted, I just got here, so don’t give up on us yet. But for now, take a look at The Secret Life of Toys. It has stormtroopers, Indiana Jones, and bloodthirsty Muppets. Score!
- How about teddy bears… IN SPAAAAACE! (Sorta.)
- Or if that fails, there’s always edible books. Genre standouts include Lard of the Rings and Sword and the Scone.
- Looking for something less stationary? How about Joss Whedon and Ron Moore playing themselves on the season premiere of Robot Chicken?
The Clone Wars: ‘Cloak of Darkness’ postmortem
The ninth episode has come and go, and we have a commentary at the official site and a recap at io9, who seem quite impressed.
Video: Five lame things in Star Wars canon
It’s funny because it’s true. Dear George, it’s all true, except I think that whole theory about Boba Fett improving anything got thrown out circa Attack of the Clones.
Victory for the Star Wars Holiday Special!
It won the Paley Center’s holiday special poll with 59% of the vote, beating out better but less infamous specials like A Charlie Brown Christmas and How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Which are going to be played on TV ad nauseam anyway.) But the Holiday Special will be screened in New York and Los Angeles! Inflict it on your friends! (Thanks, Mike!)
It’s Friday and The Clone Wars is back
Your only visual Star Wars fix returns with ‘Cloak of Darkness’ tonight, complete with…. Surprise James Marsters?!? (The hell?) In less shocking news, Ashley Eckstein and a new webcomic, ‘Transfer.’ UPDATE Annnnd Olivia d’Abo.
As for the fannish side of things, the ForceCast has Kevin Rubio and a ‘Bombad Jedi’ roundtable. Plus, the Galactic Senate message boards are holding a Clone Wars fanfic contest, with actual prizes and everything. (via)
Gift Guide: Stephen Colbert and the attack on the war on anti-consumerism
Santa Maul found this clip in his sack a few days ago, and he trusts that you will take Mr. Colbert’s advice and buy many, many Force FX lightsabers. No lowly stick could match its fine quality of making George Lucas and Hasbro shareholders (like Santa Maul!) richer.
George Lucas still talking about Indy IV
I know I’m not along in facepalming every time the man talks about Indy IV – and I swear, I was mildly entertained by Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – but he’s doing it again. Luckily, Coming Soon also asks him about Star Wars 3-D (don’t hold your breath,) Red Tails (in casting,) Samuel L. Jackson (we’ve heard it) and directing, to which:
I’m getting rid of all my development. Everything that I’ve ever developed is going to be finished in about a year, a year and a half or two, and then I’m going to go do my own films.
Oh, George. Perhaps Clark will finally get an answer on those Howard the Duck sequels.
In less winceworthy news, how about his student film? Racecars! Vroom vroom! Yeah!
Into the Lucasfilm archives: Super-8!
Beta vs. VHS are my earliest video memories, so I for one am clearly too young for this whole Super-8 thing. Is it the video equivalent of eight tracks? And what’s with the lame slide projectors?
On the topic of obsolete (or not) kiddie technology, anyone know where I can get hold of some vintage Star Wars View-Master reels? The eBay, it has nothing.
Greener shades of Alderaan in South Korea?
These green, hill-shaped building plans that io9 discovered are still in the planning stages, but they’re rather reminesant of some of the concept art for Alderaan. Greener, of course, but I don’t think the Alderaani would object.
