Well, after news of the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies book spread around the internet faster than the latest in viral videos, I suppose it isn’t too much of a shock that Natalie Portman is going to be involved in a movie version. (And the book isn’t even out until April.)
But what makes this more of an emerging trend than a simple hot property is yesterday’s word of Pride and Predator. io9 throws these two in with Lost In Austen, but quite frankly that one seems like a whole ‘nother genre of fanfic that’s more embarrassing than kick-ass.
The only thing that would make this “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” thing better would be if Summer Glau would be cast alongside Natalie Portman.
And then I would promptly explode from happy.
Scoke: Summer as Kitty would be hilarious… all flirts and boy-crazy and then.. bam – zombies getting RiverTam’d.
what else could be a good Austen/sci-fi crossover:
“Borghanger Abbey” – Catherine, reader of too many sci-fi novels, goes to balls with friends, and gets invited to the spooky estate of Northanger Abbey, and thinks assimilitive cyborgs are behind the mysterious goings-on.
“Ohm-ma” – a robot tries to program matches for her friends, but in the end her designs fall apart, as she realizes she’s not immune to this human concept of love, and falls in love with C-3Knightley.
“Cylon and Cylonability” – nuff said.
Austen aside, I always thought Oliver Twist could use vampires.
And Bleak House would have been so much better if the lead heroine had been turned into a zombie instead of merely suffering through small pox.
I’ve seen the ITV ‘Lost in Austen’ miniseries… while it seems like a bad fanfic idea, it was actually done rather well; tongue firmly in cheek!

give it till about 1 minute in ;)
I wouldn’t mind seeing Pride and Prejudice set during Amidala’s time period. I think that would be more elegant!
But zombies….. ehhhhh.
