Rogue Leader on Tumblr created a map that corroponds each of the United States to a planet from Star Wars. It didn’t take long for a few objections to spring up on Twitter, but I must admit I get a huge kick out of Michigan being Kuat. (via)

I still don’t understand how they left D.C. off the list, considering that every “select your state” drop-down menu on the Internet includes it. D.C. would have been the perfect Coruscant.
I’m not sure how California ended up as a military obsessed, weapon producing world that operates as a caste system. I was always under the impression that the Corellia system as a whole was modeled on different parts of California.
That said, I like this map an awful lot.
If they are basing it on terrain, I am not sure Lok is a good equivalent. Kansas is not all dusty and barren, and as far as I know, we do not have any volcanoes.
Dathomir as Massachusetts I can see somewhat–plus it amuses me to no end.
Why do people take it so seriously? It’s just for fun.
Hello! I just wanted to say thanks for posting this on here~ :)
And in regards to any objections: I didn’t base it just off terrain. One state may be based on types of people, others may be based on something in it’s history, a landmark in the state, the terrain, etc.
But, everyone is entitled to their opinions and there are many planets that would have worked for a single state. And there are many states that work for a single planet! So objections are sure to arise.
May the Force be with you all!
I can’t tell if my state (UT) is Mustafar or Yavin IV
Rogue: No problem! It’s very fun. :)
Bryan: The text list is the second link. Utah is Geonosis; Due to geography, I presume.
Or it’s Geonosis. Which I would have learned if I’d’ve done two more minutes of digging.
I suppose we are a weird bug people and we’re the beehive state. And we have lots of Sandstone….
How is Arizona not Tatooine? They filmed the Sarlaac scenes in Yuma, even!
Jon Stewart said that Florida is Dagobah, so it must be true. :D
Hey, Rogue Leader, didn’t mean to come of like I was objecting. I’m always curious about what people’s thought processes are when they’re doing projects like this. It really shouldn’t be a hot issue, but I guess that’s just a part of fandom.
This is great though. I keep clicking back to it and staring at it with this big, stupid grin.
Nevada is far from oceanic… but I am amused all the same.
Kelly:
sorry to disappoint. while the film cast and crew stayed in Yuma, which was the nearest town, the Sarlacc pit and Jabba’s Sail Barge scenes were filmed in California’s Buttercup Valley in the Imperial Sand Dunes – which are actually closer to Mexico than to Arizona.
Doyle~
Oh, I was just letting everybody know! I find what everyone is saying fascinating! It’s great because people are picking reasons for states/worlds that weren’t the reason I picked. No one has been rude about this in the slightest.
In a few weeks after I’m back from vacation, I might make posters, placemats or t-shirts. So keep checking back on my Tumblr for info!
Keep on keeping on!
