SDCC: Interview with John Jackson Miller on Kenobi, Overdraft, and more

While at Comic-Con in San Diego, I got the chance to sit down with Star Wars author John Jackson Miller to discuss his upcoming novel Kenobi, his recently published sci-fi work Overdraft: The Orion Offensive, and his other upcoming projects, and a Kenobi giveaway from Del Rey at Comic-Con.

And below, Miller gets a surprise visit from Lisa Curtis (dressed as Miller’s character Zayne Carrick from Knights of the Old Republic comics), who presents him with an honorary membership in Rebel LegionSDCC-john-jackson-miller-rebel-legion

Course of the Force 2013: Team Hondo races to riches for Make-A-Wish!

On Monday morning, Team Hondo took to the streets of Oceanside and Carlsbad, along the north coast of San Diego County, for their segments of the Course of the Force lightsaber relay. Raising nearly $2,200 for Make-A-Wish over the past few weeks, putting us in the top three of all Course of the Force fundraising teams, Team Hondo was ready to run our segments in the lightsaber relay that had started in the Bay Area and was headed to Comic-Con in downtown San Diego. Here is our epic saga! Continue reading “Course of the Force 2013: Team Hondo races to riches for Make-A-Wish!”

Kyle Newman’s The Return of Return of the Jedi now online at EW

ReturnofReturnoftheJediAfter teasing us earlier in the week, Entertainment Weekly has posted Kyle Newman’s tribute film, The Return of Return of the Jedi, online at ew.com for all Star Wars fans to enjoy.

Originally screened at the EW CapeTown film festival in front of the Return of the Jedi showings on May the 4th at Hollywood’s Egyptian Theater, the ten-minute film has various celebrity fans commenting on their favorite parts of the thirty-year old film. Plenty of reminiscing about Salacious Crumb, Ewoks, the Emperor, and “It’s a trap!” by such folks as Kevin Smith, Donald Faison, Jaime King, Chris Hardwick, Seth Green, Sam Witwer, and Pete Wentz.

Apparently EW can only have the short film online for 48 hours, so go watch it!

Trailer park special edition: Fall’s new genre shows

The TV stations held their upfronts last week, giving advertisers (and viewers) their first look at fall’s new shows. So your first trailer park of the week is devoted to genre and genre-ajacent TV show trailers.

Up top, the biggest gun: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from Joss Whedon and the Disney/Marvel conglomerate, coming at you on ABC, Tuesdays at 8:00. And yes, there is already a push to abbreviate this as MAoS, so pass it on.

Note that yes, some of these are spoiling their show’s first episode, but love it or leave it, their main purpose is to sell ads.

Trailer park: Harrison Ford harnesses the minds of children for war, because why not

And it’s the first trailer for the Ender’s Game adaption, which really wants you know that a bunch of these actors have been up for/won Oscars. (Ford was nominated for Witness in 1985, which I can’t blame anyone for forgetting) Book fans may want to check out io9’s spoiler-full screencap study of the trailers.

Below the cut, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost go pubbing, George Clooney and Sandra Bullock get lost in space, and… Alien folksingers, because why not?

Highlights from EW’s Return of the Jedi 30th Anniversary Screening

ROTJ screening 30th anniversary may-4-2013

There was plenty to behold for the 30th anniversary screening of Return of the Jedi at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood as part of Entertainment Weekly’s first CapeTown Film Festival. Held on Star Wars Day, May the Fourth, the set of four screenings of the no-longer-final installment of the Star Wars saga brought out fans and celebs alike. With Jedi being my favorite Star Wars film, I was stoked to see it again on the big screen – twice! While we’ve already covered the news of Mark Hamill’s appearance after the evening screenings, there’s plenty more to share, including a visit from The Clone Wars cast and more! (Also check out my full photo album on Flickr!)
