With something in the vicinity of 24 hours to go (YMMV) before The Clone Wars starts airing officially, here are the last Ask Dave’s. In #3, above, he answers “Will we see more of Lux and Ahsoka in the future?” and #4, below, about Darth Maul’s birth name.

There’s quite a variety of things coming this week, at least if you take formats into account. (…Lots of Sith.) First up, today, is Drew Karpyshyn’s The Old Republic: Revan in paperback.
Then Wednesday brings Darth Maul: Death Sentence #3 to comic shops. That night, tune into Cartoon Network at 8:00 p.m. EDT for LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out.
And finally, The Clone Wars returns Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with the Maul-centric ‘Revival‘.
If none of this catches your fancy (I hear that, sister) hold tight: Pablo Hidalgo’s The Essential Reader’s Companion is coming on October 2.
It’s Saturday morning, so let’s get cartoon-centric. First off, StarWars.com has debuted ‘Ask Dave,’ where Clone Wars head honcho Dave Filoni answers fan questions. Above, “Will we see more of our favorite Jedi return in the near future?”; Below, “Does Rex’s story have a happy ending or a sad ending?”
And head over to Big Shiny Robot for a clip from the season premiere, ‘Revival,’ and a look at the Red Carpet event held at Celebration VI. If you weren’t at CVI or last night’s screening in San Francisco, ‘Revival’ will make its official debut next Saturday (September 29) at 9:30 a.m. on Cartoon Network.
USA Today interviews Dave Filoni about the upcoming season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and he describes that season five is going to be bringing a lot of the war’s consequences. My favorite line:
“Black market, drug trafficking, these are all areas that Maul or someone like him can flourish,” Filoni says.
Darth Maul – half man, all drug lord. Yup. You heard it straight from Dave Filoni… from a certain point of view. And for those wanting to see more cameos from the original trilogy, there’s not a chance that Han Solo will appear (unless George comes up with the idea) but the article does mention the return of Tarkin and an appearance of blue Snaggletooth. More seriously, Filoni points out that we are going to see more of the impact of how the Jedi’s role in the war is being perceived. I’m pretty sure that if the Jedi were asked about their media strategy in the war, the Holonet News sound bite would go like this:
“We’re keepers of the peace, not spin doctors.” said Mace Windu, summing up the Jedi Order’s main media strategy as “one giant Jedi mind trick”. The briefing ended abruptly when General Kenobi appeared, waving his hands, saying “This isn’t the interview you’re looking for.”
The Clone Wars S5 premiere will be screened at the Letterman Digital Arts Center on September 21st – 8 days before it’s on TV.
Coming off of the announcement at Star Wars Celebration VI that season five of The Clone Wars is switching air times from Friday nights to Saturday mornings (9:30 a.m.), StarWars.com has announced that seasons one and two are going into domestic syndication for the first time.

So yesterday I reported on the kids-focused screening of Young Jedi at Star Wars Celebration VI. Today I checked in with a few sources about what Young Jedi is all about. My first assumption about Young Jedi while viewing it was that it was going to be a story arc on The Clone Wars this season, but one thing I immediately noticed was the lack of a The Clone Wars title card – merely the Young Jedi logo. The screening definitely felt like it could be broken apart into several episodes of the show in terms of the storyline.
Afterwards, I heard about George Lucas’ mention of a younger-audience series during another panel, and thought that Young Jedi would fit the bill as a spinoff of The Clone Wars for younger audiences, and Lucas’ presence in the audience was his way to gauge audience reaction. Did the kids and parents in the audience get a sneak peek at an early version of the pilot? I got a chance to talk to someone with an in on the project. So while a lot of focus was on George Lucas at The Clone Wars panel this morning at Star Wars Celebration VI, and the Friday night premiere of the season five opener, fans got another peek at something upcoming in The Clone Wars with Young Jedi. In the Calling All Kids panel, (where all adults had to be accompanied by a child under 11), Dave Filoni introduced Young Jedi, an eighty-four minute screening that is likely to be a four-part story arc on Star Wars: The Clone Wars this season. (Or at least it appears that it could be easily separated into several episodes) With fans getting popcorn and George Lucas sitting in the crowd watching the reactions of the kids and adults in the audience, we were taken on a thrill ride aimed at the children who are the core audience
of the show.

Today was fairly busy, starting off with the Del Rey panel. It was also the first official reveal of Detours, which I chose not to attend in order to write up Del Rey. This one goes a little beyond just the stuff I was able to attend, if only because of the sheer overlapping amount of big things going on. (Yes: Still exhausting!)
Oh, and apparently The Clone Wars is moving to a Saturday morning debut? Alrighty then. Bryan Young went to the S5 premiere tonight and has posted a review and recap.
