ABC’s Nightline takes a look at how Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia were recreated for Rogue One.
John Knoll on bringing back Tarkin for Rogue One
John Knoll discusses the choice to and methods of resurrecting Peter Cushing’s Grand Moff Tarkin for Rogue One with the New York Times.
Rumor: Rogue One bringing back Grand Moff Tarkin
Today’s crazy rumor comes to us from The Daily Mail, so be sure to treat it with the upmost sincerity.
The Mail says that Rogue One will feature a “digitally recreated” Peter Cushing reprising Grand Moff Tarkin. Okay!
To their credit, it is somewhat plausible, given the great strides we’ve seen in digital makeup recently, but the performance would also be under far greater scrutiny… Of course, we also heard similar rumors for Revenge of the Sith, where young Tarkin (played by Wayne Pygram and a lot of makeup) showed up only briefly with no actual lines. But the article also goes on to describe (presumably) ILMers recreating his legs, which seems a bit disingenuous when you could hire a talented stand-in. Maybe their source is actually talking about Battlefront?
Classic, Clone Wars characters to appear on Rebels?
Given that Lucasfilm really wants us to know that Grand Moff Tarkin is on Monday’s episode, ‘Call to Action,’ it’s probably not surprising that we’re hearing rumblings of more ‘special guests’ from The Clone Wars and original trilogy eras.
But first, here’s a clip of Tarkin in ‘Call to Action:’
Last weekend, a voice actor for a popular character who debuted on The Clone Wars revealed that he’s recorded for Rebels. Then a French website listed that a voice actor for an even more popular character would be returning… And Jason Ward at Making Star Wars has heard about three characters for the season 2 premiere – including one who’s already appeared on the show.
Don’t forget, the S2 premiere is due to debut at Celebration Anaheim in April, so a heavy presence of fan-favorites makes a lot of sense…
UPDATE: There is another “in talks” for a season 2 cameo.
But heading for the more immediate appearance, there’s another ‘Call to Action’ clip behind the cut. Continue reading “Classic, Clone Wars characters to appear on Rebels?”
Chewbacca to appear in Clone Wars S3 finale
The New York Times reports that everyone’s favorite Wookiee will appear in The Clone Wars two-episode season finale on April 1. Peter Mayhew will be doing the voice honors:
To portray Chewbacca for “The Clone Wars,” Mr. Mayhew was not required to don the outfit at all. (“I was doing it in my own clothing,” he said.) However, he did record dialogue for the character, having learned over the years to emulate the blend of bear growls and other animal noises used to create Chewie’s voice.
It’s a small galaxy after all, I suppose.
Meanwhile, over at Entertainment Weekly, there’s new video of Tarkin.
Tarkin is coming to The Clone Wars
StarWars.com has our first look at the future Grand Moff. He’ll make his cartoon debut February 18 in ‘The Citadel.’
What a week for lists…
Kunochan.com’s top twenty starship captains. Both Han Solo and Grand Moff Tarkin (O RLY?) make the list, but I’m mostly tickled by the inclusion of Turanga Leela. Futurama: awesome animated sci-fi show, or most awesome animated sci-fi show?

CE: Art, art and more art in London
Lawrence Noble will be live-sculpting Grand Moff Tarkin at Celebration Europe. Just like at CIV, one lucky fan will get to take the bust home. There’ll also be an art show and environments by Weird & Wonderful that will “transport visitors into the world of Star Wars.”
