Sue Rostoni announced that Troy Denning’s first Fate of the Jedi novel – third in the cycle – is titled Abyss.
Kemp novel gets a name, Luceno interviewed
Sue Rostoni announced on the StarWars.com boards this afternoon that the January ’10 Jaden Korr novel by Paul S. Kemp is titled Crosscurrent.
In more immediately relevant EU news, Fictional Frontiers had James Luceno on this weekend in honor of Millennium Falcon. And EUC wants your questions for their own interview.
Expanded Universe newsbits: Sue hints, January comics, Sean Williams, sibling rivalry
Lots of tidbits: Sue Rostoni has continued posting bits and pieces about the new contract on StarWars.com boards and blogs, including the timing of Fate of the Jedi and Blood Oath (apparently Seeley’s cover art has Zekk “in a very manly pose, looking ruggedly handsome.”) Meanwhile, the first FOTJ cover will feature Luke, although no artist names yet, and the manuscript for Shadows of Mindor is 419 pages. And she’s updated her book schedule entry with a few new dates (already reflected in our schedule) and the news that the Reaves/Bonhoff ‘holostar’ novel is set two years before the Battle of Yavin. And today we swing right back to Fate of the Jedi: It “will continue to be a mix of characters.”
- Comics: StarWars.com has Dark Horse’s January 2009 solicitations, but it looks pretty slim: Just Knights of the Old Republic and the beginning of Legacy’s first post-Vector arc.
- The Force Unleashed: Sean Williams shares his piece from the Adelaide Advertiser on writing Star Wars.
- LOTF: io9 features Jacen and Jaina as one of Science Fiction’s Fiercest Sibling Rivalries.
Title change for Fate of the Jedi #2
The title for Christie Golden’s first Fate of the Jedi novel has been changed from Enigma to Omen, Sue Rostoni said on the boards this afternoon. She’s been posting quite a bit lately, so poke around!
Kemp clarifies setting of Jaden Korr novel
Yesterday, Sue Rostoni indicated that Paul S. Kemp’s Jaden Korr novel (we really need a name for this thing) was set during the Great Hyperspace War, events which happen several centuries before the birth of his protagonist. On his Livejournal, Kemp explains:
I don’t want to give away major plot points, but in an effort to lessen some of the confusion, I will say this: The novel does contain a scene or scenes that take place during The Great Hyperspace War, and scenes that take place in the present, post LotF period, and the plot of the novel turns on the (I hope interesting) way that past and present intersect.
So I’m seeing something in the vein of Outbound Flight/Survivor’s Quest, if they were one book. Capiche?
Infodrop: Sue Rostoni on the new contract
Sue posts furthur details about the upcoming books on her blog. The relevant (new!) information…
- Fate of the Jedi #1: “Luke and Ben attempt to follow Jacen’s previous journey in the hopes of discovering what and how various Force-using groups influenced him to accept and use dark side powers.”
- The Clone Wars: Wild Space: Stars Obi-Wan Kenobi and Bail Organa! (Did we already know this?)
- Blood Oath: Takes place just after we last see Zekk, Dave Seeley is doing the cover!
- Joe Schreiber’s horror novel: Set between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back.
- Paul S. Kemp’s Jaden Korr book: Takes place during the… Great Hyperspace War? Well, I’m confused. UPDATE: Kemp clarifies.
- Alex Irvine’s novel will star Nomi Sunrider!
- The paperback by Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff features “a promising holostar – a rags to riches story set against the backdrop of the early days of the Rebellion.” (Fan speculation/wishful thinking is pegging the holostar as Wynssa Starflare.)
EU newsbits: Coruscant Nights, Williams, Vitas
- Coruscant Nights: On the official boards, Sue Rostoni drops a short except from Patterns of Force and confirms the (much-confused) release date as January 27th.
- Interview: Sean Williams over at the Adventures in Sci-Fi Publishing podcast (Thanks, Zee Zee!) while Lightsabre talks to webmaster-turned-Complete Encyclopedia contributer Bob Vitas.
- Preview: Legacy #29/Vector part 10.
More hints from Sue Rostoni on upcoming books
Nothing specific, of course – but another comic project? Vector should end in December, so 2009 is primed for… Something. I’m not even going to begin to guess, but I hope it’s not something Clone Wars.
At some point in the near future, I hope, I will be able to remove the tape from my fingers and actually type you more complete information about what’s coming up. Just be assured that the unmentionable 9-book series rumor is not the only stew on the stove. There will be ample side-dishes and a few chocolate sprinkles here and there. Plus, Dark Horse is brewing something as well, something that I am very excited about….
I suspect the reason we’ve been waiting so long for a contract announcement is because they want to reveal a full slate of new releases along with it…
Rumors: Fate of the Jedi and Christie Golden
UPDATE: Golden’s involvement was confirmed as of September 12, 2008. Googlers, for the very latest news on the Fate of the Jedi series, please see our Fate of the Jedi tag!
There’s been a rumor floating around the TFN boards for a while now about Fate of the Jedi. So far, all we know for sure is that there’s one book, by Aaron Allston, that appeared on Amazon. When asked, Sue Rostoni commented on it. Confirmed? Sort of… Maybe not. Only LFL knows, and we still don’t even have an official announcement on the Del Rey contract renewal…
The most rumory bit comes in when a random poster on TFN’s Lit boards (JohnTheRevelator) claimed that FOTJ is going to be a nine-book series, much like Legacy of the Force, with the author duties split between Allston, Troy Denning, and Christine Golden. (Golden has written many tie-ins, but no Star Wars, so far.) The news coming out of nowhere, TFN posters were rightly skeptical. Later, another poster (fanboyskywalker) claimed to have confirmed the information at SDCC, but again could provide no actual proof. (And to help matters along he seems to have mixed FOTJ up with other upcoming projects, like Traviss’ Boba Fett novel.) The news eventually made it over to StarWars.com and someone asked Sue, who had this to say:
I met her some time ago and she’s very enthusiastic about the unnamed project I can’t talk about. She’s a team player and a good communicator.
So now we know that Golden is on board for something. As we still really don’t know much about that many upcoming books, I’m hesitant to assume it’s Fate of the Jedi, but that’s certainly a possibility.
Sue also had some comments on the 9-book format, which I’ve put under the cut: Continue reading “Rumors: Fate of the Jedi and Christie Golden”
Thursday at ComicCon
There’s plenty going on, but particularly of note:
8:30-10:00 Star Wars Fan Film Awards
It’s the galaxy-spanning return of a Comic-Con favorite! The Star Wars Fan Film Awards come back to Ballroom 20 as the Thursday night big event. Ballroom 20
Speaking of, voting on the Fan Movie Challenge finalists ends on Thursday. There’s also a Random House panel at 6:00, but with Betsy Mitchell the only familiar name present, I suspect they’ll save any Star Wars publishing news for a dedicated panel. (via)
UPDATE: Or not. Here’s what Sue Rostoni had to say about on the subject:
There will be a panel dedicated to The Clone Wars program, but not one on general fiction. Frank Parisi (LFL editor) and Carol Roeder (LFL director of publishing) will be on the panel along with Leland Chee and Henry Gilroy (writer of Dark Horse Clone Wars comics) and others. Pablo will moderate. I won’t be there this year.
I guess we’re probably not getting a Millennium Falcon cover or Fate of the Jedi announcement, then…
