Official blog moves to official domain
The Official StarWars.com Blog is now officially residing on StarWars.com. We’ve changed our blogroll – have you?

The databank’s greatest hits
StarWars.com’s 100 most popular databank entries for 2007 is an interesting (and snarky!) read. EU fans will particularly love Kyle Katarn’s blurb.
And because I’m clearly behind on the ‘mention the namesake’ quota, I’ll note that Mara is the highest ranked EU entity, coming in at #21… And the third-highest female (behind Leia and Padme, natch.) Even if her entry is a tad behind on the timeline.

Hyperspace or no Hyperspace, if you’re registered at the official site, you probably have a link to the StarWars.com Official Survey in your inbox… Fill it out to make sure your interests are considered. (Yes, there is relevant stuff. Eventually.)
Official site looks towards the future
While we were gone, StarWars.com got a bit of a facelift. The front of the site is now driven by Flash, no doubt with an eye towards a that less news-driven site that Pablo has been mentioning lately. And from a designer’s standpoint, it sure is shiny… Like last time, the redesign process will be gradual, and for now most everything beyond the front is pretty familiar.
The biggest change, however, is the brand-new video section, which gathers all the site’s video content together in a slick Youtube-inspired interface. Or is that two brand-new video sections? Mashups features actual clips you can edit, remix, and upload right on the site, a huge step for any official site to make.
Overall I feel pretty positive towards the changes, and while I’ll miss the news-focus, I look forward to seeing what upgrades the rest of the site will get. It can’t all be Flash…
The price we pay for a decent OS
Hyperspace users may have noticed that ads are back on StarWars.com. (Not that they ever left for free users.) Meanwhile, Pablo updates us on what’s coming, going, and moving about. Long story short: a lot of stuff on the site will be free, and there’s a bunch of stuff they can’t talk about yet.

Starwars.com is 10 years old
As noted by this week’s Homing Beacon newsletter, the official site has been around 10 years this month. A series of retrospective articles will start in December, but for the time being you can check out the site’s evolution via the Wayback Machine.
From the Blogside
The Infinite Force on how to write a ‘popular’ blog on starwars.com. I don’t think there’s really a set formula, but you might as well give it a try. Early morning rambles and very snarky things about Courtship of Princess Leia or the YJK series (inexplicably beloved by the young’ens) have also been known to work. Or just hope everyone else sucks that day.
