The Woman of Star Trek scoffs at sterotypes. The profiles (which only cover the original series, and a few of the movies) can get a tad saccharine and the writing a bit stilted, but I have to admire the effort, and the delightfully clear screencaps to help those of us who may not know every character and episode by name. Whoops of the day
George Takei Agrees to Film Internet Episode of Star Wars. Um, guys? If you’re not sure, just use the AP headline next time, okay? Or, you know, actually read the story…
This is a pretty big thing for Trek fans though, as the series in question is fan-run.
My Little Ponies go geek
I wasn’t into Star Wars as a kid – I was all about My Little Pony and Barbie and all that critical mass girlie stuff. So a year or so ago, when I found a picture of Lord Pony, I was amazed and extremely covetous. (Alas, it is not to be.) Today, I found an amazing Alien pony, complete with step-by-step pictorial. Such an oddly compelling combination…
Other custom ponies of interest: Yoda, Spock, gargoyle, Borg, punk, and Masque of the Red Death (one of a series!)
Forget Transformers, LFL – here’s a crossover toy I would buy!
The idealistic future
Ron Moore of Battlestar Galactica writes about how Star Trek changed his life for The New Your Times.
Take a look at the new (old) Trek
Trailer for the remastered 40th Anniversary Star Trek. They even rerecorded the music… Overall, it doesn’t look that much different. More OT 2004 than OT 1997, if you catch my drift. Of course, this is a trailer, so they don’t give you too close a look at the CGI bits. (And scrunchy web video resolution doesn’t help matters.)
Meanwhile, over at Blog@Newsarama, the Grumpy Old Fan has some thoughts on the matter…
Look at the Trek pretty
In our ongoing series defecting to the Trek franchise, we point out the pretty pictures posted by SciFi Wire in their gallery.
You can find a list of the affiliates airing the remastered episodes at StarTrek.com.
Video Monday: All-Trek Edition
I’m late today, sorry. My teleporter broke. Hopefully this vast array of Star Trek videos will make up for my tardiness. (Hey, it’s forty years. I can give them a video post.)
The Kirk/Spock ‘Closer’ fanvid that’s burning up the internets. Yup, that’s the fandom that invented slash… Like you had any doubts.
Shatner’s infamous “Get a Life” clip from Saturday Night Live.
Nerf Herder sings about Mr. Spock. FANDOM BETRAYERS! Erm, good show, mates!
Betty White roasts William Shatner. Who knew that sweet little old lady could be so dirty?
Funny commercial for Star Trek: Enterprise.
Of course, no collection of videos is complete without a Monty Python mashup.
These Trek highlights from Youtube user m185874 are not be missed. He has uploaded fanvids from other series – most notably Babylon5 – that promise to be at least half as hilarious as these:
– Bohemian Rhapsody
– I Will Survive
– I’m Too Sexy
– The Time Warp
And, of course… KHHAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!!
Trek does a Lucas
It appears that George Lucas isn’t the only one who enjoys “continuing work” on a franchise.
Starting on September 16th, Star Trek is getting a facelift. They’re going to “update” the original series to feature more modern special effects.
This includes redoing the opening, space shots and “some” interior effects.
Really. Go read for yourself!
Video Monday
The saga continues: Chad Vader Episode 3!
Star Wars Shadow Puppets. Is that the Audio Drama as (part of) the background? (Thanks, Bonnie!)
The Simpsons vs Star Trek. Genius!
Episode I: The Drunken Menace. Anakin’s ‘angel’ line makes a hell of a lot more sense in this context…
– The truth about Darth Vader
– 12 Angry Robots
– Death of an Ewok
– Filk: Mace on a Plane
– May the Fonze be with you. And also with you.
– Classic Clip: R2-D2 and C-3PO on Sesame Street.
Original Trek to get the CGI treatment
I think this might actually be worse than redoing the original trilogy – isn’t half the charm of Star Trek how unapologetically awful the effects are?
