Star Wars with occasional sarcasm
Becker & Mayer, the producers of the deluxe versions of The Jedi Path and Book of Sith, brought their newest books to Comic-Con. Watch the video to learn more about The Bounty Hunter Code (similar to the two previous in-universe type books), the more affordable version of Star Wars: The Blueprints, and the Barnes&Noble special book: Star Wars: Build R2-D2 Papercraft. On Saturday at Comic-Con, I had a chance to sit down with Lucasfilm’s J. W. Rinzler to discuss his upcoming works: The Making of Return of the Jedi, The Making of … ebooks with enhanced content, and The Star Wars, the eight-issue comic portraying the original draft screenplay of George Lucas for Star Wars. Big thanks to Mr. Rinzler for the interview, and Del Rey for their secret press room.
These almost certainly won’t be the last trailers out of the con, but these two revealed yesterday are certainly among my most-anticipated. Book 2 of Legend of Korra will be coming in September, but you can watch the first three minutes now.
The Veronica Mars movie is expected early next year.

While at Comic-Con in San Diego, I got the chance to sit down with Star Wars author John Jackson Miller to discuss his upcoming novel Kenobi, his recently published sci-fi work Overdraft: The Orion Offensive, and his other upcoming projects, and a Kenobi giveaway from Del Rey at Comic-Con.
And below, Miller gets a surprise visit from Lisa Curtis (dressed as Miller’s character Zayne Carrick from Knights of the Old Republic comics), who presents him with an honorary membership in Rebel Legion
In a one-hour special, Disney’s Phineas and Ferb will be heading to the galaxy far, far away next year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
I’ve never seen the show, but I’ve heard of it as one of Disney’s more popular cartoons… And it’s not like there’s a particularly high bar set for these things (thanks, Family Guy.)
The show is already airing a Marvel crossover on August 16.
At Del Rey’s Star Wars panel at SDCC today, they revealed the cover for for James S.A. Corey’s Honor Among Thieves, in addition to saying the book is in the same vein as the classic Brian Daley novels!
We’re not expecting big news, but anything could happen… Attending were authors Jeffrey Brown, Troy Denning, John Jackson Miller, and J. W. Rinzler, Del Rey editor Frank Parisi and Lucasfilm’s Jennifer Heddle and Leland Chee.
They also discuss Kenobi, The Making of Return of the Jedi, and Brown’s followup to Vader’s Little Princess… And nothing about Crucible, Sword of the Jedi, or the Kemp books. On hold, indeed.

There were no big announcements at the Dark Horse Star Was panel at San Diego Comic-Con – though an upcoming Vader series will heavily feature a clone trooper – but plenty of chat on their current lineup. CBR has a write-up of the panel as well.

Mark Hamill my not be making an official appearance at San Diego Comic-Con – hell, he can’t even visit without being recognized – but he was happy to chat about it (and Star Wars, natch) with The Hollywood Reporter.
As for Episode VII? Well, we’re still waiting on an official announcement, but:
Hamill’s hopes are high for the Star Wars: Episode VII reunion: “We want this to happen. How could I not take this ride? They’re making all the right moves, like Michael Arndt as the writer. Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3 — he writes humor and he writes heart. I’m not someone who looks to recapture the glory of when I was in my 20s. I think it’ll probably be about the next generation. We’ll be the link to the past, but the kids will be doing the heavy lifting. And the Wookiee will have a walker.”
Hamill is up for it, even if he’s no longer the teenage Luke. “Am I the age Sir Alec [Guinness] was in 1977? I don’t want to do the math.” (He’s 61; Guinness was 63.) He also hopes one day to find the shirt he wore to a 1976 convention: “It’s a collectible; it would’ve shot up in value.”
Hamill and Carrie Fisher will be appearing next week at Celebration Europe in Germany. Lucasfilm has denied that they’ll be making any Episode VII announcements in San Diego.
Their booth isn’t the only thing that got a new look for SDCC! The Her Universe website also unveiled a redesign today. And the limited-availability Jaina Solo and Mara Jade shirts are now online.
