Episode VII: More leaks, plus a clarification on the ‘big’ spoiler?

spoilers-swirl-bespin1Making Star Wars kept on after their big jaw-dropping reveal, dropping some info on stormtroopers and the Chewbacca concept art we’ve heard about, plus a new alien. However, if you did dare to read their big ‘I am your father’ rumor/spoiler, there’s a follow-up today that puts it in some perspective. Now mind, it’s STILL perhaps the biggest rumor/spoiler we’ve seen yet.

Meanwhile, on Tumblr, Nicole has some good thoughts on the spoiler, concept art, and what it means to the final product.

Now, while the big one hasn’t spread very far, there are some sites objecting to it even being posted. That part I can understand – I have no trouble reading and linking spoilers but I wouldn’t have leaked this myself. (Sorry, Jason.) But writing about it and acknowledging that it exists and that it’s the BIGGEST SPOILER EVER without even linking to it seems hypocritical at best and back-patting at worst. It’s still drawing attention to this thing you don’t think people should know. Sure, the spoiler is not that hard to find if one is even remotely clued into Star Wars fandom, but if you have a general audience it just seems cruel – not to mention a bit patronizing. There’s plenty of valid debate to be had about leaks and pre-release spoilers, but there have to be better ways to go about it.

Rumor: Is this Episode VII’s ‘I am your father’ moment?

spoilers-swirl-muppetMaking Star Wars finishes the day with a real whopper, what Jason is calling the “I am your father” moment of the film. Which means this is possibly the biggest spoiler of them all, so click through at your own risk.

It is, honestly, kinda cra-cra in an eye-rolling Seth-and-Amy (“Really?”) kind of way, but to paraphrase Jason, it’s bad execution that ruins stories, not the ideas. (I agree with him on spoilers too, obviously.)

But if you don’t like this rumor… Well, my red herring theory from this afternoon still stands, and this is the kind of thing that makes me want to stand by it all the more. We’ll see.

There’s going to be quite a bit of snark bearing down on this. Batten down the hatches.

UPDATE: A follow-up gives this a tad more context.

Today in Episode VII: Yet more (spoilery) rumors regarding all sorts of things

spoilers-swirl-bbwarwick→ Making Star Wars is on a real roll today with several rumors that could be extremely spoilery. First, this morning, there was Daisy Ridley’s house. Jason then followed up this afternoon with some details about Max von Sydow’s character, a couple of planets/locations, a beast and lastly, a new droid, alien and discovery.

First of all, I have few doubts that Jason has seen this stuff. And doubling down is Devin at Badass Digest, who talks about much of the same stuff, including further von Sydow details and something about Chewbacca. But as a skeptical skeptic who skeptics, I have to wonder if some of this is a deliberate red herring. Head to the comments for my personal conspiracy theory.

In less spoilery things…

Carrie Fisher gets an award. Mark Hamill is there. Their #beardwatch and #blondewatch games are still strong, but they are both in Los Angeles, so perhaps they’ve wrapped up as well? In any case, enjoy the sibling cuteness and hope we’ll get to hear Carrie’s inevitable jokes sooner rather than later.

Ben Affleck explains the genesis of the Batman v Superman/Episode VII ‘feud.’ (Warning: Autoplay video.)

Today in Episode VII: A fresh bunch of shady rumors, Oscar Isaac already wrapped

rumors-swirl-sw-oot→ Some iffy details on a possible scene involving Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and a couple of old timers from – where else – the Star Wars 7 News message board.

→ On that note, last night saw a highly unconvincing ‘leak’ of supposed ‘dailies’ from Ireland on Youtube. The video and the account that posted it were gone by morning, but I did watch it last night, and… I’ve literally seen reenactments on old episodes of Unsolved Mysteries that were more convincing. (The ‘narrator’ was no Robert Stack, either.) Some of it may have been filmed in Ireland or someplace that looks like it, but everything else is pretty low-rent. Here are some screenshots, so don’t be fooled if you see it pop up again.

→ This is a few days old, but apparently Oscar Isaac wrapped up his filming on Episode VII last Friday – the same day as Anthony Daniels, at least. (via)

Today in Episode VII: Concept art, maybe, of a scene and yet another stormtrooper

spoilers-swirl-bespin
Indie Revolver is at it again today, dropping not only pictures of another version of stormtrooper but concept art of a battle on a planet that sounds like the one Roger Moore was talking about. Of course, we can’t say for sure if any of this is legit or just the work of talented fans, so you know the drill.

Meanwhile, from Greenham Common, there are new aerial photos and some snooper videos.

Today in Episode VII: The most important pixel in all of existence, more set pics, more sets, bulk cameo rumors

Clickhole wins the Episode VII No-Prize today. Spot-on work there.

rumors-swirl-driver→ Rick Lawrence posted a few more photos from Greenham Common this weekend, now removed from Facebook, but the rest of the internet is not so easily swayed. The one that created the most fuss: A figure who looks suspiciously like Adam Driver, raising a number of questions. For some less spoilery fare, check out a helicopter shooting the set.

→ But wait! There is another location, and it’s… Endor! People are seriously buying this as something other than a code name, for some reason. UPDATE: Apparently it’s not even a Star Wars set. Well played.

→ And finally, some dumb: Robert Downey Jr, Hugh Jackman, Samuel L Jackson and Daniel Craig are going to cameo in Episode VII. Sure, guys. Okay. I’m sure none of these men have any other reason to be at a storied British film studio. None at all. But, just for the hell of it, let’s say they’re playing a swoop gang. A singing swoop gang.

Episode VII rumor grab-bag; Is an Obi-wan spinoff in the works already?

rumors-swirl-jedi-sithMaking Star Wars was busy last night. There’s a whole grab-bag of stuff from a source playing off the recent rumors, including the Luke timeline, the ‘guards’ at Greenham, Moraband, the Sith lineage and Daisy Ridley’s character’s name. But if you believe any of this, the biggest bombshell here may be that an Obi-wan Kenobi spin-off is higher in the pipeline than we may have expected:

I’ve heard from quite a few people now that an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is in the works. For the spin-off movies they were initially going to stay away from any Jedi or Sith characters. But I’m hearing now that because of the popularity of Obi-Wan (fans recently voting for him on the official website etc) that an art team is now working with a writer on concepts for an Obi-Wan movie.

Of course an Obi-wan spinoff seems pretty much inevitable, with Ewan MacGregor game and twenty years between the trilogies to set it in, but the earlier rumors have mainly focused on characters like Boba Fett and Han Solo.

They also spotted a Tumblr post from a girl whose boyfriend is an extra at Greenham Common – she claims that Harrison Ford will be on set Monday.
